Go to "John Williams Returns" at Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Hello Chicago Film Lovers! I'm scheduling a meetup early, because tickets for this event may go fast. John Williams, composer of the scores of many of the films we are familiar with, like "ET", "Lincoln", and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", to name a few, will be performing at the Symphony Orchestra Hall off of Michigan Ave the evening of November 8, 9 and 10th matinee. Julie, a member of our group gave me a heads up about this opportunity. Thanks Julie! We originally were going to go to the Friday evening November 8th performance, but those of you who still want to join us we're now going to the Sunday November 10th matinee at 3 PM. The reason why is some of us got the deal for the movie series tix. See link for movie series info: http://cso.org/TicketsAndEvents/SeriesDetails.aspx?cid=23061 With this deal you have to go to the Sunday matinee. Get tickets for 11/10 here: http://cso.org/TicketsAndEvents/EventDetails.aspx?eid=5803 Your proud to be organizer, Rebecca Legendary composer John Williams and renowned violinist Gil Shaham join the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to perform Williams’ lush and virtuosic Violin Concerto. The work is paired with selections from some of the composer’s most memorable film scores, including Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. The Extraterrestrial and Lincoln, a 2013 Academy Award-nominee for which the CSO recorded the original soundtrack.

A-MAZ-ING! A superb rendition of John Williams' music through many years and styles performed by one of the world's best orchestras, followed up by a tasty encounter at Miller's Pub, where the talk included political hijinx (segueing from "Lincoln", perhaps?) and how many other films Williams has composed for that would be ruined by J.J. Abrams directing them. 8)

Here's the set list as I recall it (anyone with 1-2 programs feel free to add to the list):

      "The Cowboys"
"Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" (with movie footage!)
      "Fiddler On the Roof"
      "Jaws" (the final chase theme)
"Laura" (with a selection of movie scenes of "ravishing actresses" through the years (Williams' words), which were a real eye-opener to the 7-year-olds sitting in front of us)
      --- INTERMISSION ---
"Hook" (with scenes of planes, balloons, and Jeff Lebowski flying - much better than showing the actual movie)
"Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"
"Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull"
      3 pieces from "Lincoln"
      Final score from "E.T".
      --- ENCORE ---
"Star Wars" (WOOHOO!) - three pieces
"The Empire Strikes Back" - "March of the Empire" (WOOHOO x 24!!)

Good news! I just confirmed with the CSO box office that there are still seats available in the Gallery, and we're in luck, they're are enough for 7 of us to sit together. Also, by getting the tix in person we avoid handling fees. This will be great, see you tomorrow at the box office at 1 PM. So excited :)

Anybody wanna go out to lunch afterwards? Please answer, as it will help me determine my schedule for the day.

I'd possibly be down for that, I was going to meet a friend at 2:00 PM, but I can push it to 3:00 PM.

I might be up for that, but it'll have to be a last minute decision. Scheduling a bunch of mini appointments for that day, but I will have to eat at some point.

Hello everyone, there is no office meetup page to RSVP for our meetup on Saturday. I've been sticking to email. So if you haven't confirmed with me yet, or have not been receiving the emails, we are meeting this Saturday at 1 PM at the CSO Box Office on Michigan Ave. See you there :)

The CSO offers a subscription to their CSO at the Movies series which includes this movie, Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo in Jan, and Chaplin's City Lights in March. If you buy all 3 it is up to 50% off. Tickets for the Gallery are $81 and if you were already mentally prepared to pay $49 for one concert we can get Main Floor for all 3 for $153, which would be my suggestion. Any thoughts?
