Let's go see "The Wolf of Wall Street" | Showtime: 7:45 PM

Hello Chicago Film Lovers!

Friday, January 10th let's go see Martin Scorcese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" starring Leonardo DiCaprio at AMC River East. We will meet in the ticket lobby by 7:30 PM and head up to the 7:45 PM show.  There are a lot of us, so it's OK if we don't sit together or if you have to sit solo. We will reconvene in the ticket lobby after the film and go to a bar/restaurant nearby to discuss the film. I will make arrangements ahead of time. See you there!

Your proud to be organizer,

Rebecca

Without having read any reviews, I went in expecting some sort of Wall Street scandal... Three hours later, I couldn't remember the last time I laughed so hard, so many times. It's a modern version of Moby Dick. Go see it!

When Belfort finally earned his broker's license, only to lose his job after Black Monday, this incident left a scar in his psych very much the same way as Ahab’s when his leg was torn off.
At first glance, Moby Dick reads like an epic novel of revenge. I read it differently, however. To me, it’s about the absurdity of human endeavor to find meanings, in a universe that is indifferent to our existence.

(cont.) The White Whale, the Stock Market, each represents our Universe’s indifference. In Moby, the Whale could have snapped the ship in half and drowned the crew anytime, but it didn’t until the end. Similarly in Wolf, McConaughey’s character reiterated this idea: “Nobody knows if the stocks is gonna go up, down, sideways, or in circles, and that it's all a fugazy.”

Excellent encounter at the D4 bar after the movie, where there was a (non-sinking) boatload of impressions and great thoughts on the film (including how it compares to the book it's based on).

By the way, some of the Meetupers are on a sweet movie site called LetterboxD, and that's where I posted my impressions of "The Wolf of Wall Street". Check the site out - it's a great resource for discovering movies!

Should we buy tickets ahead of time?

    January 10, 2014

    • Rebecca M.

I'd advise it if you don't mind paying the extra fee. Otherwise just get there a little early. You can buy tix online through MoveFone, we're going to the 7:45 PM show at AMC River East

Ahhhh this seems like such a cool batch of folks with excellent selections made so far, can't believe I've missed out so many meetings. "Wolf" is exhilarating, grotesque, and hilarious - can't wait to see it again.

The ticket I printed doesn't have a barcode. Did I print the right thing? I got it from "Print Ticket" at the top of this page. 'm looking forward to the movie. Thanks, Rebecca!

Hi Carolyn, if you got your ticket online (Fandango), then all you need is the credit card you used to purchase, swipe it at the kiosk at AMC River East and your tix will come out of the machine. Please let me know if you have any other questions and I look forward to seeing you Friday!
