Filmmaker Meetup

The meetup continues with summer in high gear on July 31. Come to network and learn about projects that are looking for people right now. Maybe you have a project of your own? Jump in, the water's fine.

SPECIAL GUEST: Prashant Bhargava, director of the new film Patang (The Kite).

For the uninitiated: this bimonthly networking event provides a chance for filmmakers to meet and collaborate on projects. Are you a screenwriter looking for a producer? A director looking for a director of photography? This event is open to anyone who is interested in making independent media: editors, actors, art directors, composers, make-up artists... Bring your resume and business cards, and we’ll handle the rest. Special guest speakers and community businesses will also be featured.

Prashant Bhargava's debut feature Patang (The Kite) weaves together several stories set during a kite festival in India, and has screened at 25 film festivals world wide, including Berlin, Tribeca, and recently Roger Ebert's Overlooked Film Festival in Champaign, Illinois. Prashant will share his six year journey making Patang, and the ongoing distribution process.

I thought it was fine - nice to meet up with other Film types to network and chat, I wish I would have had the time to stay for the whole speaker presentation. I think it might be cool to do a meeting that is a network and chat meet up only so there could be more interaction with the community. I also think a bit more formal approach to the speed meet would help. Some kind of pattern to follow like speed dating, as in move to the next table instead of just leaving folks to their own devices to find the next person. More organized than free for all.

It was great! Mr. Bhargava was inspiring and informative.
The first hour of crew and talent networking was productive.

Essentially, a good and detailed story board will let you divide the work and list the unit for the production so you can take "a safe first plunge". If you need any help let me know.

HI Jacqueline, I was the writer, director, storyboard and also the music composer of the movie along with the initial stages of editing. But i always required help, therefore i had to look for a crew who could bring their specialities for troubleshooting.
I learend that i cannot do everything myself, except for cinematography, lighting and directing at the production phase can be tackled as per my experience, however sound, an assistant director and few grips are essential for production phase
