Make baby blankets for hospitalized infants and toddlers

SCHEDULE NOTE:  WE ARE SKIPPING THE JANUARY MEETING, AS I WILL BE OUT-OF-TOWN.  We have a recurring meetup the first Sunday of each month. No "official" start time. Drop in whenever you can. We ship the baby blankets to hospitals all over the 4-state Midwest region. We make them simple and quick. No larger than 36"x36". Minimum 28" x 28" which you can make with just 2 skeins of yarn. Knit, crochet, no-sew fleece: we love them all. Plenty of 40%-off coupons from nearby Michaels. Come in to visit awhile and work on a project (always great fun), or just drop by to leave a blanket and/or get some information.

Eun and Bylynda - come to the meeting anyway. You will see some examples of blankets. Also, scroll to the 2nd-from bottom comment for this meetup to see what I wrote earlier about learning to make blankets. See you tomorrow.

I'll be out of town, so I can't make this meetup, but the blanket making efforts are in full swing at my home! I'll have a good amount to donate to them this month. I'll give you the count : )

Kathryn - super you can come next month. As soon as I get home from this Sunday's meetup, I will be creating the 3/2 meetup.

Hi Jill - see www.michaels.com. There are always coupons available there for printing or even sending to your smartphone. Note the start and ending dates carefully. It's easy to miss, and I have been known to show up with a coupon that was either expired, or not yet valid. Sometimes the sales clerk keeps a spare coupon to scan for such times, but not always. The coupon is almost always valid for a week, starting on Sunday, ending on Saturday. And a few for the holidays might have a more limited date range. Have fun shopping! I will look forward to see what you picked.

Susan - wonderful! I will check out Michael's or Joann's and plan to come even if I don't feel competent in my blanket making yet.

Hi MB -- not a silly question, not at all. We generally make blankets in 3 ways; knit, crochet, and no-sew fleece blankets. Of these, the fleece blankets are by far the simplest and quickest to make. Knitting and crochet take more skill and take a bit of practice to get the hang of it. So we generally recommend a class at Michael's or Joann's to get started. But it's just a suggestion. Come to the meeting regardless of whether you have taken any classes. You'll meet some others, and see examples of the work. I usually bring a partially completed crochet blanket using a simple pattern, and anyone is welcome to take and finish it as their first project. For all the blankets, the best fun is choosing the material (whether fleece or yarns) and watching as you transform them into adorable, priceless blankets.

Sorry if this is a silly question - does this include instruction on how to make a blanket? I would love to learn so I can participate.
