Design a logo contest for the Chicago Fun Volunteers group: Deadline 3/14

  • Mar 1, 2014 · 12:00 AM

Volunteer to make an official logo for this Chicago Fun Volunteers Meetup group!

Eliot (our Chicago Fun Volunteers group founder) and I were discussing things we should have for our Meetup Group and he thinks we should have an official logo, among other things.   There are almost 2500 of us on the Chicago Fun Volunteers Meetup group. It would be fitting to have a symbol that represents all the wonderful work you do for the community, and all the fun you have doing it.  The logo will give us an identity when we communicate and interact with the public in our events. The logo should be recognizable and help promote our group's mission to help our communities by volunteering.

So this is a call to all you talented creative people out there (amateurs and professionals), to come up with a great logo that represents the essence of our Chicago Fun Volunteers group.

Start your creative juice flowing and come up with an image that represents what we do here at Chicago Fun Volunteers. As a reminder, this is our current Meetup Group description: “Chicago Fun Volunteers is a unique & open forum thru which all altruistic activity w/in the area can be monitored. Join and help our large and active community of members keep tabs on opportunities in: Fests, Park Districts, United Way, Food Pantries, Tutoring, Afterschool Programs, Local Cleanups, Senior Centers, Animal Shelters, and more... The unique MEETUP layout is ideal for this type of group concept since we've made it easy for ANY MEMBER TO POST volunteer events online, similar to putting up a flier in a coffee house for people to see”.

After our logo contest is over, we will have another contest to work on our Meetup group description. :)

Suggested guidelines for your logo design: The logo should look good on a computer screen, smart phone, tablet, web page, printed paper (signs, banners, letterheads, name tags, etc), printed fabrics (T-shirt, hoodies), arm tattoo, and special sexy underwear. I personally think it should also look good printed on a spherical surface. No, not your butt tattoo, I am thinking more like a volleyball. That means the logo needs to be scalable and be readable in any size. Avoid using small or squiggly fonts as it will not be legible on a tiny name tag. Logo should not depict any acts of animal cruelty, witchcraft, or Republicans. Logo should look good both in black and white and in full color. Logo should not be a derivative of something that is copyrighted, as we can’t afford to be sue, we have no money. We live solely on love, kindness and pop tarts.

From my personal experience with our meetup group, I joined to recruit some volunteers to help in one of my charity race events, and I discovered there are so many amazing people here with diverse backgrounds, fun personalities, very interesting life and work stories, all wanting to help our community through volunteering. These community service events create a fun and social atmosphere and allow our members to connect and make new and real friends. Some volunteers are willing to brave extreme cold weather to help a community in need. What a kick ass group of awesome people! No, I do not want to see an ass in our logo, like I said, no Republicans or politicians.

Please submit your logo in a vector file format, as well as a JPEG or PNG image file so it can be easily viewed online by our group members. If you have to submit it as a bit map only, please make your image a minimum 6 x 6 inches, 300 dpi.

Since we live in a quasi democracy, we will let all CFV members vote on the logo to select the winning design. The contests starts NOW.  You can submit your logo until Friday March 14, 2014, midnight CST.  Voting starts 3/1 and ends 3/14.  All submissions should be sent to [masked] by midnight, March 14th, Central standard time.  The earlier you submit your design, the more time members will have to look at it and maybe vote for it.

Logo Design Contest Rules:

NO PURCHASE, OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN THIS CONTEST. VALID IN THE 50 UNITED STATES, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA OF THE UNITED STATES, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, IRELAND, THE ISLAND OF TUVALA, AND PLUTO (IT IS STILL A PLANET, DAMN IT!)

Any employees of any companies and their families are eligible, non employed, vegetarians, vegans, and left handed people are also eligible.

All image submissions are meant to be given to Chicago Fun Volunteers to used as a community logo.  Contestants agree that Chicago Fun Volunteers may publish their logo and may use both for advertising campaigns and/or marketing materials in the future. Contestants assign all ownership rights, including all intellectual property rights of the logo, to Chicago Fun Volunteers, without any compensation in return, as we don’t have any money.  Instead, the winner will receive infinite love and adoration from all Chicago Fun Volunteers members. Women may throw their panties at you at our next volunteer event. Children in remote villages will sing your name in songs around camp fires.

Additionally, Chicago Fun Volunteers may alter, modify or revise the logo as it sees necessary to achieve the current and future goals of our Meetup Group.   Chicago Fun Volunteers  reserve the right to not select a winner if, in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received, or if you guys submit too many weird selfies pictures.

In the event of a tie on the logo votes, it will be settle by an intense game of Rock, Paper, Scissors or we will just let my potbelly pig decide.  He will chew up the one he doesn't like, or poops on it. (Don't take it personal, he poops on everything, he's a pig!)

No animals were harmed in the production of this logo contest or my salad at lunch. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while making your logo.  Batteries not included.

Any reproduction, retransmission or rebroadcast without the expressed, written consent of Major League Baseball is strictly prohibited.

Please post any logo contest questions below.  Good luck!

Just sent in my submission (3/11). What fun. Do I get to vote for my own image? And now the really dumb question: voting is open from 3/1 thru 3/14 but for the life of me I cannot find the "candidates" or the mechanism to vote. I am generally only a little dense, but on this, I must be really dense. Need the remedial help desk. Thanks.

What cute comments on the behavior of one of the judges -- your pot-bellied pig! My cats always leave bite marks on unused greeting card envelopes they like. Since most of the cards are cat cards (for birthdays, get well, you name it), I always mail those cards first. They add such a great "cat flavor" for the recipients!

P.S. Do you walk your piggie on a leash? I saw one in our neighborhood getting his walk. Have heard that they are extremely intelligent. If I didn't have 2 older cats who are set in their ways and scared of just about any other animal (including each other), I'd LOVE to have a potbellied pig as a pet. Is yours a miniature or full size?
