We have a need for volunteers on Saturdays to work with students in fun Reading, Chicago History, Science and Art/Math projects. We will be working with Reading and Arts for first and second graders, Chicago history with the 3rd graders, science experiments for 4th graders, and Creative Arts and math games  for 5th graders.

The volunteer project time is Saturday morning from 10 AM to 12:30 PM at the McCormick Elementary School in the Little Village neighborhood.

The young students need role models, especially young girls that think science and math are intimidating. Come show them it can be fun and exciting. Show them knowledge is empowering. Come inspire them!

No advanced skills required, all easy to follow instructions will be given to you by an experienced project leader, and you will work with small groups other volunteers and students. We will do our best to match your interest with the grade activities, but due to limited volunteer spots per class, you may be assign to where the need is the greatest, so your flexibility is much appreciated.

All you need to bring is an open mind and kindness to share with the children. You will both discover the joy of learning and making art.

Volunteers will meet in the lunchroom of the annex building (to the left of the larger main school building). Free street parking is available. Ask for Wilson or the project leader you signed up to be in.

Our future project dates are Saturday March 22nd, April 5th,  April 26th, and May 10th. Save the dates and the opportunities will be posted on here for sign up in the near future.

If you want to bring a guest, have them sign up individually. The school requires all volunteer's full names, due to CPS policy.

You can also sign up directly or pick a different project on web site.

Hi Everyone, Thanks for your interest in this event. The goal for this event is for volunteers to help the students at the school with reading, math and science, therefore, your full attention is needed. It will not be practical if you have to focus on monitoring your own child as well at the event. If you would like to do an art and craft event with your own children, I recommend this Geek Craft event at the Harold Washington Library, http://www.chipublib....

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
