Cook and serve lunch to seniors and community, Northside

Come help cook and serve lunch to seniors and other community members at the American Indian Center of Chicago in the Ravenswood neighborhood. Volunteers will prepare and serve a healthy lunch to 50 seniors and other members in the community. We will have a chance to sit down and eat with the Native Elders as well and learn from their wisdom. After lunch, we will help clean up the kitchen and dinning room, (put food away, wash pots and pans, wipe down counters and tables, sweep and mop floor)

While the food is being cooked in the oven, there is some down time, the AIC also receives a delivery from the Greater Chicago Food Depository for their community food pantry, volunteer has the option (but not required) to help assist with the unloading the food as well (15 to 20 minutes)

This is a fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity that will connect you to a peaceful and artistic culture, and learn about the many different Indian tribes and how they come together to support each other. Easy free street parking in the neighborhood, plus close access to CTA train, (Montrose Brown line) and bus routes (Ashland, Clark, Lawrence, Montrose)

The American Indian Center of Chicago is the oldest urban Native American center in the nation.
