Make baby blankets for hospitalized infants and toddlers

We have a recurring meetup the first Sunday of each month. No "official" start time - just drop in whenever you can from 1 to 3pm.  We ship the baby blankets to hospitals all over the 4-state Midwest region.

CHECK OUT THE GROWING PHOTO ALBUM!

We each bring our own materials to work on the blankets.  We make them simple and quick.  No larger than 36"x36". Minimum 28" x 28" which you can make with just 2 skeins of yarn. Knit, crochet, no-sew fleece: we love them all. Come in to visit awhile and work on a project (always great fun), or just drop by to leave a blanket and/or get some information.  KIDS ARE SUPER WELCOME!

For 40% off coupons (good for one item per person per day), see www.michaels.com or www.joann.com.

Good to know when shopping:  Michael's carries yarn, but no fabrics.  Joann's carries yarn and lots of fleece.

Even if you have never knit, crocheted, or done no-sew fleece blankets, and don't know what materials to buy--feel free to come anyway.  It's always a fun group;  you'll meet some others and see examples of the work.  As of our 6/1/2014 meeting, we have collected 28 blankets!

Although I could not stay long, it was a pleasure to see everyone and to drop off the blankets Miss Lucille, my niece Elena and I made. I hope they will bring comfort to the precious little ones and some joy and courage to their parents.

Do I have to get a specific 'baby' yarn or any kind is ok?

Hi Maria - great question. Any kind of yarn is OK. The medium weights have the most color choices, and the blankets make up quickly. The baby yarns are beautiful, but they are so fine, that it would take many, many hours to make even a small blanket. But lots of us love the baby yarns, so we often use 1 strand of baby yarn PLUS 1 strand of medium yarn. The color combinations make a gorgeous effect. Can't wait to see what you choose.
