Cathedral Shelter of Chicago is currently looking for volunteer "elves" to assist in our Christmas Basket Program from December 3 through December 16 including weekends. Positions include:
List Checking Elves
Elves helping Santa with check-in families to receive their gifts. They are needed from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., beginning December 5 and 6 and December 9 through 16. Elf duties include helping to verify the identity and scheduling of recipients. Check-in elves have the most contact with recipient families.
Workshop Elves
The toys and presents have been made, but Santa now needs elves to help distribute the gifts. Workshop elves help from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., beginning December 5 and 6 and December 9 through 16. It includes locating Christmas Baskets for recipients as they arrive to pick them up; unload trucks for tomorrow’s Christmas Baskets and organize the warehouse for next-day distribution.
Sleigh Driving Elves
Driving Santa’s sleigh is such a big job that Santa can’t do it all by himself. Sleigh drivers (driver and navigator) are needed beginning December 3, from 8:30 a.m. until their route is completed (approximately 3-4 hours). A driver and navigator, equipped with a Cathedral Shelter supplied truck (U-Haul size) and GPS system picks up Christmas Baskets from parishes, schools, or businesses throughout the city and suburbs. Truck teams may have to help load trucks at pick-up locations. Two to four drivers/navigators are needed every day from December 3 through December 15. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license.
We may also need clean-up elves on December 17 and possibly December 18.
We are located at 1668 W. Ogden Avenue in Chicago, IL. To sign up to volunteer, you can reach me at: [masked]
Please RSVP by November 27, 2012 with date and position you could like. Thanks!

The season was great. With the help of Meet-up volunteers and others Cathedral Shelter of Chicago was about to service 1740 households, by registring and handout gifts from the sponsors.
December 26
It was a fun, fast pace event that provided gifts for many people. I was in the back room with 5 other helpers. The other volunteers were very nice as was Angela, the coordinator.
