Ildifonso is my name. And I like what I'm reading about this group.
I volunteer for mutliple organizations year round. Among them are Chicago Cares (hunger, environment, school rennovation, and most recently: senior services). WTTW channel 11 (public television), friends of the chicago river (environment). Imerman Angels (cancer support), White Sox Volunteer Corps (Hunger, environmental, school rennovation), ALS association (information education on lou gherig's disease) World sport chicago (heath and fittness, and my first project with midweestern veterans.) Red Cross (volunteered on-site at their charity events) and there are several other groups that I intend to to pick up the pace with. Each of the above has significance for me in some way.
Well, i'm a poor man. And if no one had been there for me, i'd be in a much worse situation. What I've found is that while charitable donations are important, they seem to dissapear almost immediately into the cost of maintaining programs, and the results are hard to see. In it's own way, i find the hands on aspect equally important (if not more so). Life is short, time is unrecoverable. So the way you use your spare time can speak volumes. Moral fiber would mean, doing something good without expecting anything in return, doing a job right. In terms of volunteering: it's about wanting to be there cause you no your work will have long lasting impact. (volunteering is not about being there because it's a current trend, or picking up a date, or because the company you work for is meeting a one day yearly quota). It's worth more when you mean it.
i've lived in the city of Chicago most of my life. i'm t the mercy of the CTA. So a carpool option is always welcome.
what i've been wanting to do for a long time is help out returning veterans in some way. Even if it was just helping to prepare a meal for them every now and then. Just as a way to say thanks for putting your life on hold so that many other people wouldn't have to.
group just came up on meetup based on my interest list.
Lovely group of individuals. Would love to meet more like them.
