Chicago is filled w/people willing to help and worthy causes abound. Why sit at home when you could be out exploring the city and having a great time to boot?
Big Brothers, tutoring, music lessons, coach baseball, Peace Corps, soup kitchens, NPO fund-raising, advocate for Chicago's Nature Areas. I'm so glad CFV has gone public... remember anyone can post here! In fact, we don't work w/out your help too!
Deep down, everyone has an understanding of right & wrong. Ask a person point-blank to define morals and from their eye contact, body stance and comfort level alone you'll know the type of life they've lived. Pretty neat, eh?
While I grew up here, I left for college @17 and only recently returned (for a surgery). It's fun to re-explore now that I have a valid-ID! I sold my car after moving downtown. Once rented a 9-seat iGo for carpooling.
My passions are nature and teaching. And tho I came up for the idea behind this site, life does *not* revolve around its upkeep. Recently began playing guitar at a home for the disabled, think they call that music therapy. My idea of side fun!
The idea for CHICAGO FUN VOLUNTEERS came to me as the Park Districts closed for the '09 season. Meetup seemed perfect to connect volunteers w/events. This is a "DO IT YOURSELF" group as I have a full-time travel job! CFV is open to all, post away :P
If you like feeling good about yourself... being smiled at, and thanked... for regular decent things you'd probably do anyway - this is the group for you!
Hi Elliot thanks for the warm welcome!
Thanks for ur warm welcoming, Eliot ! :'D
I am holding a fundraiser on July 15th at Vaughn's Pub for a volunteer trip in South Africa. From 7pm-9pm 50% of all food and drink revenue will be donated to my charity. Would your group be interested in posting my info for whomever is in the Chicago area and wants to stop by for a drink for a cause?
Glad I could make you laugh, Eliot and would love to hear about your adventures in Africa too!
Thanks, Eliot! Can't wait to go to my first volunteering meeting!
Thanks Elliot, I look forward to reading the info. SR
