About the Adelphi Theater
About the Adelphi Theater and the Chicago Ghost Hunters Group
"As far as paranormal activities are concerned, this vaudeville legend turned single screen movie theater had a very large population. Many people have experienced very strong emotions within it's walls in it's 88+ years of existence. Laughing, crying, anticipating, and being entertained by vaudville acts and later movies. It was a well loved theater for nearly a century, but it has also had it's share of deaths on, and surrounding it's property".

Posted Jun 10, 2007 at 4:41 PMI formed a group a few years ago that some of the members of this group were involved in called The Citizens for the Adelphi Theater.
We were attempting to save the historic theater from demolition, and re-open it as an entertainment venue for the community.

Here are the few we know about:
A man from China lived on the second floor for years, and spent all of his time caring for the homeless and reselling collectables from his hometown. He later died of a heart attack in his room upstairs.
In May of 1938, motion picture operator Henry Schneider was kidnapped and brutally murdered with two bullets in his head after closing the Adelphi after work one night.

Sea of BlueWe spent a good two years researching and renovating the Adelphi, and along the way we were able to take some of the most amazing orb photos that I have ever seen.
Check out the Adelphi orb photos here.
After a long battle to save the theater, I was physically and mentally wrecked from the ordeal. I decided that I needed some time away from Rogers Park, and stayed with my family in Elmwood Park for a while. I returned to the site of the Adelphi last Halloween with one of my friends, and when standing in the hole that once was our beloved theater, we felt like it was still there. The auditorium had a specific echo to it that lasted about seven seconds. We found that the property had retained that echo.
