Mount Kilimanjaro climb + Service Project

December 23rd 2012 – January 3rd 2013

Days: Total 10 days – 7 day Kilimanjaro hike + 2 days volunteering at orphanage

Location: Tanzania

Info on the hike:

Elevation: 19,341 ft.

Distance: 62 miles round-trip

Route: Machame

Difficulty: Strenuous

Mt. Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and is one of the seven summits of the world. It consists of three volcanic cones: Kibo, Shira and Mawenzi. The highest point, known as Uhuru peak, is on the Kibo crater.

Dec 23 – Arrive in Moshi. Relax
Dec 24 – Meet the group and enjoy a daytrip excursion together
Dec 25 – Travel to Kilimanjaro Orphanage. Orientation to service project. Begin project
Dec 26 – Complete service project. Travel to hotel. Orientation on Kilimanjaro climb
Dec 27 – Travel to Machame Gate. Registration. Hike to Machame Camp (11 miles, 7 hrs.)
Dec 28 – Hike to Shira Camp (6 miles, 6 hrs.)
Dec 29 – Hike to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower (9 miles, 7 hrs.)
Dec 30 – Hike to Karanga Camp (4 miles, 3 hrs.)
Dec 31 – Hike to Barafu Camp (4 miles, 3 hrs.)
Jan 1 – Hike to Uhuru Peak. Experience sunrise on New Year’s Day on the rooftop of Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp.
Jan 2 – Descend to park gate. Return to hotel.
Jan 3 – Leave Moshi to respective destination

Cost: $2390 for non-East African citizens and $700 for East African citizens

Price includes:

Hotel accommodations which includes bed, breakfast and dinner
Packed lunch while on the road
Shared hotel accommodation. Additional cost for single room accommodation
Transportation to and from airport, orphanage and Kilimanjaro National Park
Entrance fees to Kilimanjaro National Park
All meals during the climb

    Thanks Daisy and Ann for your comments. Machu Picchu is on our list :) We organize 3 hikes in the US and 1 international one annually. Next year we are planning Grand Canyon (rim to rim), 14er in Colorado and one more in the summer. Look out for future hikes and thanks for the support.

    I would've LOVED to join you! I hiked Kilimanjaro in 2001 and it was definitely the trip of a life time but the Orphanage service project REALLY speaks to me! I'm raring to hit Machu Picchu are anywhere quite frankly that a service project is included! What an amazing meetup! Thanks for your efforts!
