This message below comes via Manda. It's an exciting time for anyone who is interested in promoting birth options in Illinois. Here's a fun way for you to get involved - come to Springfield and support the cause. I'm going and I'm very excited about it! We'd love for you to join us.
Message from Manda -
A group of us are meeting to go to Springfield next Wednesday, May 9, with our babies in support of either or both:
SB385 The Midwifery Licensure Act
SB 264 The Healthy Childbirth Act
Please consider joining us. We will be taking Amtrak leaving Union Station at 7:00 a.m. and returning on the 5:00 p.m. train (arriving back her at about 8:45 p.m.) The tickets are $17 each way and babies can ride free or you can get them their own seat for half price.
If you are interested in joining us you can look for us on the platform 20 minutes before the train leaves or call me on my cell phone [masked]) beforehand or even that day so that we can all sit together and help keep each other positive under the pressure of crying, walking, running, flying babies.
You don't need to have had a homebirth or have worked with a midwife or birthed in a birth center to get involved.
Here is my attempt to describe the bills:
SB385 The Midwifery Licensure Act gives the right for certified professional midwives (CPMs) to practice legally in the state.
SB 264 The Healthy Childbirth Act concerns the right to establish free-standing birth centers in Illinois.
Please read more about these two bills?both of which have passed out of the Senate and now face tough fights in the house?and consider calling your legislator to weigh-in on one or both of them even if you don't come along for the ride!
