Building Community through Technology

FacingDisability.com is the first website to connects individuals with spinal cord injuries to information, support, and other people who have faced similar traumas. Facing Disability partnered with Table XI, a Chicago-based digital consultancy, to refine and execute their vision. Now, one year later, the site has become home to more than 1,000 original videos, has gained national media attention, and has positively impacted hundreds of lives in Chicago and beyond.  "Building Community Through Technology" is an interactive presentation in affiliation with Chicago Ideas Week that addresses issues surrounding privacy, community and digital strategy. Join Facing Disability’s founder, Thea Flaum, also known for her work as the creator of "Sneak Previews" with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, Josh Golden, CEO of Table XI, and experts from the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago as they discuss the process of bringing an idea to life, specifically how technology and rich media can create community.

Would love to attend - but I teach at IIT Stuart School of Biz on Wed nights through the fall - a class on creativity. I'm seeking collaborators for the launch of the CivicLab, a store front space where activists, educators, designers and technologists will collaborate to do research, teach and build tools that accelerate civic engagement. Email me @ [masked].
