The Right Way to Wireframe

  • February 6, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • WunderLand Group's Conference Center at

Russ Unger will give a behind the scenes look at the design process used by four different UX designers, all working to solve the exact same problem with the exact same set of requirements. We'll identify the right way to wireframe.

This highly energetic session will provide an in-depth behind the scenes look at the process behind the design, including: research, IA/interaction design, wireframing/prototyping and visual design. The presentation will conclude with a time-lapse video of the entire process from start to finish and a comparative view of the similarities in the processes that each designer uses.

About the Speaker:

Russ Unger is a User Experience professional in the Chicago area and is a Senior UX Leader for GE Capital. He is co-author of the book A Project Guide to UX Design for Peachpit Press (Voices That Matter) and is co-authoring the book "Designing the Conversation" with Dan Willis and Brad Nunnally, due out in early 2013, as well as book on guerrilla research methods with Todd Zaki Warfel due out well, sometime. Russ is also on the Advisory Board for the Department of Web Design and Development at Harrington College of Design.

Great gut check to know that I've been approaching the process in the same way as the pros. Nice to see other UXD's processes. And of course, Russ's presentations are always entertaining as well as educational.

Is there any chance the presentation will be posted online? Or perhaps there was a recording made for a podcast?

I was one of the 100 or so on the waiting list and couldn't get in but really wanted to hear more about it.

Hi Amy, Will the doors open at 5:30? I'm planning on coming early as I'm on the waitlist as well.

    February 6, 2013

    • Amy W.

Hi Michelle - We usually open the doors around 5:30-5:45 so you can feel free to come around that time. Thanks!

  • Jay Y.

Yes, that's a great idea. Please change to a larger venue if you can! Wasn't aware of how many were on the Wait List before, but it looks like "112 people waiting".. Wow!
Usually you can get on the list once other people change their RSVP at the last minute, but this doesn't look possible for this one.

This is a topic that many people want to see and learn first hand! So please let us know!

Hi Jay. We are always looking for larger venues to host our events, so hopefully we'll be able to accommodate larger groups this year. If you're on the waiting list for this event, you can still come. We find that many times, attendees RSVP yes right away and don't end up making it. Thansk!

I am on waitlist, let me know if any vacancies accrue over a period of time.

    • Raymundo B. G.

Are you adding everyone on the waiting list ? if not could you please add me? MUNDO

      February 5, 2013

    • Amy W.

Hey Raymundo - I've added you to the list. I haven't added everyone on the waiting list to the guest list. We are allowing waiting list people to come on a first come, first serve basis.

I'm sure everyone knows how crazy work can get causing some of us to miss wonderful opportunities to learn like this... That said, I think I remember seeing chatter on one of these about videotaping future meetups. Will that be the case tomorrow?

    February 5, 2013

    • Amy W.

Hi Josh - We are trying to be diligent about videotaping most, if not all, of our Meetups but unfortunately for this event, our videographer is unable to make it. If Russ has a slideshare presentation, we will post that after the event on our Meetup page. Sorry & Thanks!

Because of the AMAZING response we have gotten for this event already, we may move this event to another location to accommodate everyone who wants to attend. I will make sure to announce this if we make a change to the location.
