Elgin: Warrior of the Lost World!

The post-apocalyptic road movie is a genre that Hollywood hasn't explored much.  Outside of 2 of 3 Mad Max movies, it really doesn't get a whole lot of play.  This movie, I think, really illustrates why.  There's a very fine line between awesome and trying too hard, and when you've chosen a default grim-and-gritty setting for your story, you're already hugging that line awful close.

Thus, the short, plotless gauntlet of geeks, dorks and bad mothers the Paper Chase guy* has to fight through just in order to get the plot started.  It also features Fred Williamson, Donald Pleasance (warming up to battle the Pyuma Man!) and Phersis Khambatta, also known as the bald lieutenant from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

We'll be starting the movie at 2 PM, but someone from the group (me or Scott) will be in the bar downstairs at around noon. So come to the bar, have lunch with some of your fellow MSTies, then head on up to the private room to watch the movie! I charge $5 per person for equipment and room costs.

The Elgin Public House is at 219 Chicago Street in Elgin, just 2 miles from rt. 90 and 3 blocks from the Elgin Metra station (Milwaukee District/West line All comers are welcome!

*For some reason, the Brains were obsessed with star Robert Ginty's having been on "The Paper Chase" series, but when I first saw the episode I spent the whole time thinking that Donald Pleasance was this guy, because the law professor from the movie and the series is kind of the face of the Paper Chase.  I'm guessing that they found Ginty playing drastically against type was funny.
