I have been studying ML since 2009 as part of my PhD in ML and NLP at DePaul university, and I have been working as a Data Scientist since June 2013. Prior to that, I used some data mining and machine learning algorithms in my Master's thesis, and have been following the subject with interest ever since, although not formally until I returned to academia. I have also made several futile attempts to apply ML to predict the stock market.
Presentations are great, some hackathons or interactive study sessions once in a while would be good too.
I am a Data Scientist at Dice.com where we are applying machine learning to the tech recruiting space. I am also a PhD candidate at DePaul University, where I am researching methods to map essays to psychological models of reasoning processes.
Great for networking, and learning about techniques I had not heard of before.
