Movie Night - Wake Up (the film) with Jonas Elrod

The Chicago Weekly Sitting Meditation Group is having a movie night! We will screen "Wake Up," a documentary about the spiritual journey of a young man named Jonas Elrod who is unwittingly placed on a spiritual path when he begins visually sensing the presence of the spirit world. His loving but skeptical girlfriend, Mara accompanies Jonas as he seeks out an amazing group of religious teachers, scientists, mystics and spiritual healers who help him unravel the intricate puzzle thrust into his life.

Though this film is not explicitly about meditation, it is ultimately a story about a greater call to consciousness and awareness and makes it a pertinent lesson for any viewer. This film first screened at South by Southwest in March 2009 and has had numerous private screenings since. It is a standout story told with sincerity and authenticity.

Watch a trailer here: http://wakeupthefilm.com/

Steven Fischer, a two-time Emmy nominated writer/producer based in Chicago, will emcee a question and answer session with Jonas via Skype and the help of the audiovisual equipment at Holy Trinity. Steven brings his knowledge and expertise in filmmaking along with a profound interest in the topic! For more information on Steven see, http://www.stevenfischer.net/index.htm

The $6 donation, payable at the door will be voluntary and will go toward procuring the rights to screen the film and paying our rental fee at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Thanks for airing this inspiring movie Steve! A wonderful reminder that we all come to our spiritual paths in different ways. It was truly uplifting to witness Jonas' transformation & how courageous for him to share his journey with the public in this way, especially in lieu of the subject matter.

I love "movie night" and skyping with the director/star was a great treat. The film was interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Gotta admit... I love this film and find Jonas to be the real deal... I like the fact that he's just a regular guy and has been willing to share some of his experiences with the world. As the Sufi mystic said, it's not the endpoint... just an experience. Seems Jonas lives this in his life. Loved the evening.

You can enter the church tonight on the northwest side of the building; there are two doors on Magnolia street, and you'll want the one that is farthest north (i.e., not the one directly on the corner of Addison and Magnolia).

Where exactly at the church is the movie being viewed? The church basement? Churches are usually locked at night. Please post exact location at the church. Thank you.
