Creating Mobile Applications that Interact w/ the Physical World: iBeacon & BLE

Is your application stuck in the virtual world, no direct connections? Does your mobile application have no way of knowing if you are standing next to your bff?  Do you find yourself pointing your phone at things hoping something will magically happen?  Have you tried to walk your phone on a dog leash late at night? This Meetup will help solve the first 3 questions, the last one is just weird…

This Meetup will focus on one of the least publicized iOS 7 features, but arguably the most important for creating truly new types of mobile applications, iBeacon/BLE.  We will start the session by exploring the new worlds opened up by this feature.  Then we’ll roll up our sleeves and walk you through the coding required to build incredible iBeacon and BLE applications.  We definitely ran into some surprises when we first started working with theses APIs. We will share the good and the bad of our experiences.

This is a must attend event if you are an iOS developer/designer. This also applies to curious Android developers that may want to implement the iBeacon protocol on a 4.3+ OS (free app idea).  It will definitely change the way you view and plan for future mobile application development.

As always, this will be a supportive, fun and informative gathering for people passionate about mobile to meet and share ideas.  We hope to see you there!

Whether you are creating an iOS app yourself or outsourcing, it is always better to follow certain industry standards so as to save considerable investment and time down the line. Once such template can be found at:

Someone asked at the meetup about potential hardware solutions for beacons. The iBeacon from Estimote was thrown out as an option but they aren't giving developers the option to change the UUID that it broadcasts on. I'm looking for a solution that allows me to customize the uuid/major/minor values. Has anyone come across any good hardware solutions? My next step might be to get a TI sensor and customize the firmware to be conform to Apple's Beacon protocol.

Would it be too much to ask if the audience could play around with some of the apps before/after the event?

Hi Greg, will 254 of us fit in the room if we all show up?

We are working on both BLE and WiFi enabled Internet of Things for lighting industry and automotive segment. Geo fencing also got a nice play on BLE and other notification drivers. Looking forward to learning more about other use cases!

I am planning to attend this session. Last month when i try to attend a meetup , the security at front desk didn't allow me to enter the building as my name is not listed in the system.
Can u pls make sure my name(Sandle) is listed at front desk?
