I know this is a late entry, but, I had a great time at this event. It was my very first natural hair gathering since going natural October 2008 and the love felt there was awesome. I can't wait for the July event!!!!

This was a great experience for someone new to the natural hair club. The only thing I would suggest is the have the presentation part in a separate area that the vendors. It was just hard to hear what the speakers were saying. Having another food vendor would be great to just so if you want to eat lighter there is another option. Overall it was great!!

It was a full day but loved every minute of it. Meeting the ladies of Miss Jessie's was a huge treat and swag bag was awesome. Gotta give a Soul Clap for Rachel and everyone who helped put this event on!

It was my first meet up I will go again however I think it should have been more vendors promoting hair,skin & nail products maybe been on a separate floor, entertainment on another but other than that it was nice oh more lighting

I was thoroughly fulfilled with the vendors, the food was delicious and reasonably priced, I purchased a tshirt that compliments my new attitude "Happy Nappy" the fashion show was chic and diverse, the knowledge exchange from the speakers was priceless and my absolute favorite was Miss Jessie's original Titi and Miko so beautiful and giving ladies. I was enlightened with their story on how they got started. Miss Jessie's and there product line is why I came. The samples were amazingly generous I was impressed ... I will definitely come back to another Chicago meet up. Thank you Rachel Odom you did a fantastic job!

Overall the location was beautiful! I enjoyed meeting natural woman all with great style. The host was great...but it was very hard to hear clearly which I understand...ppl, vendors, music etc...possible next time the meetup could be sectioned off or broken into workshops...each with its own individual purpose...maybe have "X" amt pp register for makeup tutorial and X amt ppl register for trimming tutorial and then at said time the attendees could switch rooms or areas...I give u 100 % kudos because the scale of the event was massive however hopefully next time set it up in a way that we can have education and mingling at the same time. I loved the meetup in the loft off Michigan because each part of the event had its own time slot and we could get the full benefits of the presenter ie fashion show by pretty africa your makeup tutorial...the head wrapping tutorial anf lots of Q and A with Octavia!!! I will beattending the next meeting....because she did a great job!

I thought a great effort was put towards the event, but there are some things that could have made it better. My friends and I travelled from the NW suburbs about an hour away, but we don't feel compelled to attend another event especially if its in the same location. It was too dark and hard to hear the presenters. We were looking for demos and/or consultations, a variety of products to select from, and more open space. Just a few suggestions: provide parking information, give a schedule of events (i.e. fashion show at 1:30, presentation at 3:00), maybe a better venue (I'd be willing to pay more if the space was accomodating), and better sound system. However, it was awesome to see so many beautiful black women rocking their natural styles in one place and entreprenuers doing their thing.

I enjoyed it. The swag bag was nice. got some nice earrings and had a chat or two with other naturals.
I stayed maybe an hour due to seating and couldn't see or hear well.
May I ask why there wasn't other hair product vendors there?
I would suggest if using the same venu maybe check in closer to the door and the vendors downstairs.

This was my very first meet-up and I really enjoyed myself.!! The concept at the Zhou B. Art Center was a great idea, however I felt like the space wasn't completely. I felt like were all stuffed in the upper room to mingle. It could have been better received also if the 2 speakers were placed in the front and back of the room in addition to having more speakers so everyone could hear what was being said at all times. I thought there could have been vendors there that offered natural hair tips and/or consultations. I meet several nice people who shared there favorite hair styling tips..... overall, it was a fun outing!!!!

I came with an open mind being the first Expo & I enjoyed taking photo's of different styles of members who attended and getting instructions on how to achieve the look. The product bag payed for the ticket. I will attend the next Expo. It takes a lot of work to make it all come together, Thank You Rachel & Datrice for your hard work.

Unfortunately, I arrived at around 2:30pm so I was unable to find a seat and left about 15 minutes after I arrived. I wish I could have stayed and experienced it to the fullest. My daughter did manage to squeeze in and buy some earrings though! :)

I went to this and decided to join the group. First time at a natural hair expo! I agree with many reviewers of the event. Loved the gift bag! Thought there would be more hair care vendors or consultants though. Maybe make-up or nail technicians and other activities could be included. Also agree that vendors could be on the 1st floor, entertainment on the 2nd, and more lighting if this venue is used in the future. Overall, I will definitely come out again! Thanks for the opportunity.

I thought the place was too small for the crowd and hot. Limited amount of vendors but I did buy somethings from them. Yes I will attend again, it there is another one. It was really nice to see so many sisters rocking different styles.

I would give it five because it was indeed lively. But here's a thought for next time you use the Art Center: Have the vendors on the first floor and the "speakers" on the top floor. As it was, there was so much noise and chatter, we couldn't hear the stage speakers, even the MC was drowned out. Oh yeh, I forgot the lighting was terrible! I wish you a better location next time.

I was happy with my swag bag and I was glad that my favorite vendor was there but if I hadn't confirmed with her that she was going I might have missed out on purchasing her products because of how crowded it was. I know that I missed a lot of vendors because of that . Hopefully that was a sign that they (the vendors) were getting lots of sales.

It was a great event. Having attended several other events the weekend, my comments are: a) lighting was too soft, it was just too dim from the middle of the room to the back and at a few of the vendors. b) the sound was distorted and muffled making it hard to hear. c) I was seated in the middle but closer to the front and the audience noise at times drowned the sound from the speaker. This could have been because the room was packed with people. d) the GIFT BAGS WERE OUTSTANDING!!!!! e) it would have been great if the 1st floor had the vendors and the 2nd floor had workshops and speakers. Otherwise outstanding event as my 1st meetup event. I will certainly attend more of these dealing with natural hair and possibly other events.

I really enjoyed this meet-up especially since it was my first major one. It was better than the one I went to a few weeks ago.

* Crowded! For safety reasons, I think the event should have been held a bigger arena.

* TONS and TONS of beautiful, fierce hair styles! And people were willing to share info if you just ask.
* The goodie bags and the full size products in them. The quick styling guides are great too.
* Enjoyed the fashion show... at least I only saw the first half. MC was great.
* Liked that it was on a Sunday. Made for easier traveling.

This was my first meetup and I had a really good time, I enjoyed the fellowship with other naturalista's and I was able to pass out a few business cards for networking purposes. Good Outing in general. The lack of a star is because I thought there could have been a few more things to do, maybe some stylist demonstrating makeup and hair styles would have been nice. Or instead of showing someone with a red lip It would've been nice to demonstrate on people that were there. Showing them tips individually ... making it more hands on. Let me leave on this note... the Goodies Bags were EXCELLENT. Awesome Job!

the energy in the space was very positive. there were SO many positive lovely ladies all looking to expand and learn in this natural walk. wish there could have been more interactive activities/workshops, demos (maybe offstage) to go along with the main attractions.
the emcee was a blast and engaged the crowd well. it was very difficult to understand speakers - they sounded distorted or could barely be heard from the back of the room.
the vendors there had very nice products (especially the soaps) however, the variety of vendors was slightly limiting. would have been nice to hair accessories, overall wellness, massage, shoes, natural salons, music, poetry, etc. in addition to the vendors that were present.
It was SO refreshing to see the vendors using the latest technology to accept debit/credit cards - signing with my finger... AWESOME
Love the jerk chicken - other food vending options would have been a delight

I loved it. This was my first Meetup. Plenty of parking, we were Ble to get into the venue early and they were ready for us. Oh my goodness...the goodie bag. It was so so so so far beyond what I expected. Great vendors. I bought too much...but would have loved a few more. The presentations were great and the Di/host was awesome. Only negative was the food line. It blocked the door and the other vendors.
