Richard Stromberg taught photography classes at the legendary Jane Addams Center at Belmont & Broadway for 33 years. In 2001, Hull House sold the Center, so Richard, with a cadre of students and volunteers, started the Chicago Photography Center on Lincoln Avenue.
Richard and his merry band built the Center – quite literally. Together, they designed and built out the space and opened for business in 2003, with Richard as program director and lead instructor. Then, in the fall of 2008, the new board of directors fired Richard for "philosophical differences." (Don't get him started. OK, ask him if you want to.)
Richard left the Center determined to start again, and many of the volunteer staff followed suit soon after.
Now, after a lifetime of bringing affordable photography instruction to anyone, regardless of income or skill level, Richard is at it again.
