When registering guys you will be asked who you are coming as a guest of please be sure to fill out this question.
The workshop is FREE of charge!
We are looking for additional volunteers, both folks who know Ruby on Rails to TA and people who are willing to help with logistics. Please sign up here: http://www.meetup.com...
Hashrocket is located at 661 W. Lake Street Chicago IL 60661
In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the workshop, you'll have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information.
We'll meet up Install Fest day to install all of the software you need, and then spend workshop day learning and writing code. Be sure to attend the installfest especially if you are on Windows, because Rails 3 can be a bit tricky on Windows.
Total programming novices, system administrators, developers in other languages, and folks who attended our previous workshops are all welcome. We'll have different classes separated by experience level. Each participant needs to bring his or her own computer.
When you RSVP you'll be asked a few question about your operating system, level and type of programming experience, and whether you will be bringing any children. We will plan for a playgroup on site if you're bringing a child.
Snacks will be provided Friday evening and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
If you have questions or ideas for us, the best way to get in touch is to send a message to the organizers.
hello, can you tell me anything about parking nearby? is it free or at least convenient? we'll be driving from champaign and can't leave until 3 pm, so we'll be cutting it close. if parking will be impossible or a hassle, we'll just cancel our RSVP this time around. Thanks!
Sam, As for parking. There is street parking but I can't guarantee it will be a breeze. There is a parking garage a few blocks away as well. The event is a two day event so were you all planning to drive down both days?
I am confused. Yesterday, I was shown that 50 members are attending and I was on the attending list. Now, it's showing that 26 are attending and I am on the waiting list. Can someone clarify this please. Thanks.
I have the same issue, and even received an email that confirmed my spot for this corse and now this page says that I am waiting to get in. Clarification would be really helpful. Thank you!
Same issue! I got an e-mail yesterday saying I could go but now I'm "WAITING" on here.
I'm also confused. I received an email saying that a spot had opened up on the waitlist and that I was going and when I checked this list, I was listed as going. Now I'm listed as "wait listed." Am I going or am I waitlisted? I already got work off and I'd like to see if anyone wanted to share a hotel room (if I'm going)...
Ok so I recruited a female to attend and I was hoping to be the guest as a male attendee and am now also waitlisted! Sorry to spam but just wanted to add a circumstance to the conversation...
So has anyone heard if this waitlist change is correct? Or when they will finalize the list of attendees?
I believe that many people accidentally signed up on the volunteer list. The workshop filled up within a few hours of opening it up to the public. Meetup made the situation more confusing. I promise we have not pulled anyone who was on the confirmed list. I will finalize the list of attendees tonight. Additionally I am turning off signup on both the volunteer event and the wait list. I apologize for the confusion. Please look for an email this evening.
Meetup updated their software in the last week or so and I think they screwed some stuff up. The admin side of the site is really buggy. I am very sorry for all the confusion.
Okay like I said earlier Meetup updated their software and apparently had a few issues. The meetup event should be showing correctly now and I have emailed both confirmed and waitlisted people with additional information. If you have questions please feel free to email me or call me. desi.mcadam@gmail.com and 4044236355.
I apologize for the confusion but it was out of my control.
Cheers
Desi
Of course the first lesson of software is that there are glitches that have to be handled courteously, professionally and transparently. Desi, thanks for a good first lesson even us Wait-Listers learned!
Ok, I am now showing as 'going'... I hope it's not another software glitch. Desi, can you confirm please? I am now seeing that the number of participants has been bumped to 31 instead of 26.
Can anyone tell me what the roads might be like by tomorrow afternoon or if there are clear parking options available nearby? I was planning to drive from Cincinnati but am worried about the leftover snow.
Emily: The main streets and sidewalks are pretty clear by the meeting. You'll probably need to park in one of several nearby garages. In the Chicago Loop you'll find limited street parking with a max of 2 hours.
super excited!
