How to Market Your Book & Still Have Time to Write
Authors hear a lot about how they must market their books in order to succeed -- it's all about platforms, discovery, and building buzz. But what does all this mean to an author who's already juggling writing with family, work, and life in general?
Join us on October 17 at the Lincoln Park Library to hear book marketing expert Paula Krapf explain what the jargon means, and how you can be active - and successful - with your book promotion.
Whether you plan to do your own publicity or hire a publicist, Paula will teach you valuable book marketing strategies, including:
1. How to get started
o How to determine whether to hire someone or do your own book marketing
o How to choose a good book publicist or marketing firm
o How book publicists charge for their services and the fees you can expect to pay
o What to know BEFORE you sign a book marketing contract
2. Why you MUST have a website - despite what some publishers and publishing experts say
3. Keys to Amazon - discover ways to maximize your book page and stand out from the crowd
4. Social media secrets - top tips for Facebook Twitter, Goodreads, LinkedIn, and Google+
5. “Real world” marketing
o Book events - think beyond the bookstore
o How to get speaking engagements
o How to cultivate book clubs
o Other marketing opportunities: MeetUps, civic organizations, associations, and more!
Finally - we'll talk about how you can actively market your book, make time to write, AND have a life!
We’ll be in the Lincoln Park Library's Community Room. The meeting starts at 6:15pm but feel free to come a little early to network. After the meeting Paula and I will adjourn to a nearby restaurant -- feel free to join us so we can continue the conversation about book marketing.
The library is about 4 blocks west of the Fullerton CTA station, and the Fullerton bus stops nearby. There is a small parking lot next to the library and street parking in the area.
Hope to see you on October 17.
