Recap and handouts from last week's Meetup: Self-Publishing Challenges and Opportunities

Hello Everyone,

Joe and I were so pleased to see some of you at our first Chicago Self-Publishing Meetup last week and we look forward to seeing everyone at future meetings.

We have revised last week's presentation and handout a little, including adding more resources at the end of the handout. To see the latest versions, please check the Files section of this site.

We gave a lot of information in last week's presentation so that attendees would have a big-picture view of self-publishing. We'll dig into the details in upcoming Meetups, and our next one will most likely cover the basics of self-publishing. Future Meetups will explore the different aspects of self-publishing, including topics that came up in last week's Q&A session:

Costs of self-publishing
How to do it yourself
How to find good help (editor, designer, formatter, printer, web designer, book consultant, etc.)
How to format ebooks
How to build an author platform
How to market your book, including book trailers
If there are specific topics that you'd like us to address, please let us know.

We appreciate the members who have offered to speak at future Meetups and we'll follow up with you later to discuss your presentations.

Joe and I are in the process of scheduling our next meeting so stay tuned for details. If you'd like to do some exploring in the meantime, we feel the best place to start is with Dan Poynter's books and website, Mark Levine's book, and the websites by Joanna Penn and Joel Friedlander. All of these resources provide in-depth information on self-publishing, and the updated handout from last week's Meetup contains links to each.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
