I will be moving to Chicago from Pittsburgh in mid-September to work at the University of Chicago. In the Pittsburgh area, I was active in the Center for Inquiry, Steel City Skeptics, and Pittsburgh Secular Freethinkers.
Weekday evenings, weekends.
Not really. I understand that science may not be interesting to many of those in the population. What alarms me are those that claim to have a firm grasp of scientific knowledge (when they do not) and the propagation of those ideas to others in the population.
My favorite discussion topic is alt. medicine.
The philosophical basis for skepticism. How skepticism can inform public policy.
When I started my last job at a science and engineering lab in Pittsburgh, I was shocked at how many of the engineers working there were accepting of creationism, global warming denial, etc. This led me to seek out the various skeptic groups in the Pittsburgh area.
Welcome to Chicago Skeptics, Mike! I'm interested in hearing how people with science backgrounds can believe in creationism! Hope to see you at the next meetup.
Hi Mike, thanks for joining! Hope to see you at a meetup soon. :)
