Okay, folks...we're just going to push this off for one week. I'd push it off for two weeks, but I know you'll be busy reading Flim Flam for our June Celebration of Magic!!! Thanks for all your well thoughts! So...Same Bat Time, Same Bat Place, except a week later. Discussion of Jennifer Michael Hecht's Doubt is now scheduled for June 3, 2010 at my place. Meetup may make us redo the RSVPs, but if anyone wants to come but hasn't gotten a personal email, please mail the group at chicagoskeptics at gmail dot com and I'll give you the details.
Due to illness, I will not be able to host the discussion on Thurs. For those planning to come, please email me (email link on left side of page) to let me know if you'd like to make an alternative location or if you'd prefer to postpone it a week or two.
Book for Discussion:
Jennifer Michael Hecht's Doubt
**First four chapters**
From the back cover:
?I have enjoyed immensely Jennifer Hecht's romp --light-hearted but serious -- though the history of one profoundly important idea -- doubt. She brings to life an awesome array of figures in philosophy, science, and literature, in a way that is wonderfully engaging.?
? Howard Zinn, author of A People's History of the United States
So you know...this is a long book. We'll be reading the first four chapters: from Whatever Happened to Zeus and Hera 600BCE-1CE (Greek Doubt) through When in Rome in Doubt 500 BCE-200CE (Empire of Reason).
(available at half.com for as little as 6 to 7 dollars)
