okay, so i sincerely apologize for all the changes and delay in getting this together, but here is the best plan i can come up with to suit the various people interested...

Where? Aspen/Snowmass

When? 3/9-3/16

I think this one is good because has 4 twin beds which is hard to find and good for non-couple travelers. There is a king bed too if someone does want to share. Couch up for grabs too. Gets great reviews.

How much?

Flight to Denver - cheap with Southwest! ($200-300 with bags included)

Rental car: $500/week for an SUV

If 6 people share the house: $575! per person for 7 nights (am trying to get this discounted more) Includes daily maid service, parking pass, and is in a sweet location.

Aspen 5-6 day lift ticket, about $500 (again, there are probably lots of discounts to be had, that's just the price off their website.

If you want to do avalanche training, a friend and I will be taking AIARE level 1 here: http://www.aspenexpeditions.com/i-AIARE-Level-1-Avalanche-Course----28.html. $325 for 3 days.

If you are only interested in a long weekend type thing, preference will be given to those staying for the whole week, unless you just want to crash on the couch or there is someone who you can kinda buddy with to cover the remainder of your week, ie. if someone wants to stay at the house the beginning part of the week, match up with someone who wants to stay the end part.

  hope you can understand, just couldn't take the risk and the individual lodging price was getting more expensive than people wanted to spend. nora- if you are willing to pay for a full week even though you are only stay 5 days, let me know, otherwise i don't see how we could do that unless you want to sleep on a couch or something b/c we'd be finding a place with a bed for you but not using it the whole time.

Too bad this email chain started in January, as I am going with a small group to Vail in a couple weeks and maybe people would have wanted to go there with a little more notice.

there are several people interested in backcountry stuff so for those folks plan is to take AIARE level 1 the first few days the spend the rest of the week doing mix of bc/resort. for everyone else there are plenty of choices to ski a different resort each day if you wish. for lodging I've looked at tons of places in the north Tahoe area, a lot is booked, but I think a good option is the cedar house sport hotel, which has a good AAA discount and includes good breakfast. will send out details later but let's plan to finalize this thing this week!!

Let's use the week of 3/2 - 3/8 as the timeframe for the trip. If you're interested then post the dates in or around the timeframe that you're available. That should give an idea of who you could group with for lodging.

  Funny. I was looking at snow reports yesterday and had the same opinion. Tahoe is a less expensive alternative with more snow. But often closed due to wind. Jackson Hole is another good alternative. How about Heavenly in Tahoe?

  So last year was an extreme la niña year and this year is still feeling the effects of that. New Mexico (Taos), Washington, British Columbia, and parts of Montana get hit the hardest. It's usually pretty cheap to fly to Albuquerque, it's cheap once you're on the ground, and warm while skiing. El niño years are better for California, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming.
