Montrose Beach Winter Begins 2013 Sunrise Shoot

Grab a cup of coffee and head out to Montrose Beach to capture the sunrise on the first day of winter. This is an awesome location to watch the sun come up! Sunrise is at 7:15 AM. Let's meet at 6:15. Look for us in the street directly in front of the vendor stand and main entrance to the beach. At 6:30 SHARP we will walk straight out onto the beach. If you arrive after 6:30, look for us out on the beach.

Here's a map where I marked the stand where we will meet:

Montrose Beach Sunrise Shoot

This is past the boat harbor...

There's a food vendor/restroom stand on N. Simonds Dr. just past the harbor. Not to be confused with the bait shop on the corner. It's directly in front of the Kathy Osterman Beach.

From there we can walk down to the beach. Parking is free, and plentiful.

I went this morning and shot this sunrise shot:

Early morning at the lake is always beautiful, sun or no sun.

Enjoyed walking around for about an hour. First attempt at shooting some B & W film. Looking forward to the results. Shot some digital as well. Great morning for that Winter in Chicago feel. I think it was probably better that the sun was covered by clouds and fog.

Waited a bit at the lake front and was happy to find that my boots are indeed wateroroof! The weather seemed borderline balmy :-) ended up taking several shots around and into the dock area in the Harbour the melting cracked ice provided some interesting texture and the colors my camera picked up were surprisingly crisp and vibrant. A worthwhile trip for me from the suburbs for sure . Thanks Chuck!

Foggy morning...not a sunrise, but interesting shooting challenges aplenty.

Hey guys I missed you. I came at 7:05 but could not find you all

Guess I missed you guys. Was out on N. Simmonds and Montrose at 6:30a. Did not see anyone. Went to the beach (near "the dock") and all I found were people walking dogs. Maybe I'll have better luck next time.

I'm in the bird sanctuary. Was at the beach at 7:10 and Chuck was already gone if I'm not mistaken.

If it's too cold I'll have to bow out as my fingers lose circulation. If not am excited. Hoping there's snow!

"Sara just left Chicago Street Photography Group" When asked why he or she was leaving the group, Sara answered:
"I'm deeply offended at your behavior"

      Me - Good. ;-)
