Basic WordPress Security

WordPress is generally a very secure environment especially when you keep current on updates. However there are things that can be done to improve on the security of your site that are fairly straight forward and not too difficult to accomplish. We will look at some "hardening" techniques that will diminish exposure to attack, buy you some peace of mind and reduce your sense of panic if confronted with a "hacking" incident.

Come join us as Jeff McNear takes us through some basic steps that we can all do to keep our sites safe.

As always, we start at 6 with a meet and greet and there is always someone available if you have a specific question on your site. The presentation begins at 7.

You are welcome to bring your laptop, but bringing a hotspot and a fully charged battery is recommended. The Holiday Club router and plugs are very limited.

Maybe no pics of rats while people are having dinner. Other than that, a great presentation but I couldn't look up if I wanted to enjoy my meal

    Hi Becky
Sorry for last minute cancel, but don't want to share my cold. Thought I would be well enough to join the group tonight, but don't think that is a good idea.

I'll be looking at the thermometer since I travel by public transportation -- waiting in the cold for Ventra to work.

Supposed to be up to +18 by Wed. A balmy heat wave compared to today!

Hi. I have a .com site and every few days (it seems) the colors and/or text change and move. Is there a way to eliminate that? Thanks.

Sue, at every meetup you're welcome to come early to ask questions. We open at 6 but the presentation doesn't start until 7. Look for me and I'll connect you with some help the best I can. That being said, you should look for support on the wordpress.com and what you're describing doesn't sound possible without you making changes. To make tech support easier, I would recommend taking a screenshot of your site now and then again when you think something has changed. That will help a lot in tracking down the issue.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
