Eagles Nest Dual-Sport Ride

Alright
here is the low down on this event. On Aug. 3rd the American Legion is having their Annual Sauerkraut Day Supper which started in 1913, in addition there will also be a car and bike show going on at the Forreston Grade School. This we will our 1st year attempting an organized ride to raise money for wounded soldier's returning home. This will not be a poker (bar hopping) run instead we will be making stops at business’s, dead end roads and points of interests.
At these stops we will have important dates in American history written down on a yellow ribbon and when you return back to Forreston Grade School turn in your form (we supply) and get a raffle ticket for every date wrote down. Then sit back grab a brat or hot dog load it up with Sauerkraut and hope your lucky number comes up. This is not a race or a group ride, that being said we will have a couple bikes going out at different times that know the route and you can follow them.  Northern Illinois has some of the best gravel roads around and it has been hard to keep the ride miles down because of all the great roads and because of this we may have two routes. One for those who may get a late start and one with a bit more miles. Registration will begin at 7am with the 1st bike out at 8am last bike out at 9am.
All proceeds go to helping wounded soldiers. The cost is $25.00 (includes meal @ Sauerkraut Dinner & ride decal).

This is a big bike friendly ride that will take you past an Eagles nest or two. There will be a creek crossing hopefully two. 80% of the ride will be gravel roads. *Prize Drawings to be held following the ride and there will be a GPS Bonus Treasure Hunt Prize.

Due to time concerns the route mileage is being reduced to around 100/120 mile range. On the plus side the short cut will have some really cool roads, if you haven’t ever ridden the gravel roads of Northern Il you’re in for a treat. The route will still have the optional low…VERY low maintained section for the more adventurous rider. Again this is not a group ride so you can ride at your own pace and the route will be mark with signs to help guide you along your adventure. That being said we will have one rider that knows the route and you are welcome to ride with him. He will be heading out around 8:30am.
Thank you again for your support!!!

Today my wife and I headed out to ride the route, everything went well until we came to the optional portion of the ride. The road didn't look to bad even though the area just received a lot of rain. So we decided to go for it...(2up)well the section maybe only a mile and a half long...well almost two hours later covered in mud having dropped or just set the bike on its side several times we made it. There was all of pushing and pull with tow straps but we made it! The best part was at the end when Tawnya got off the bike to push only to be sprayed with muddy water she started laughing so I sprayed again. We didn't finish plotting the route but did enjoy a lot of beautiful gravel roads and a mud bath. I will post some of the pictures we took today along the route on my profile. The ride should be a lot of fun and its all for a great cause! More to come...
