Hello fellow wine lovers, We just have a few quick notes before Saturday’s trip. Hopefully you have all read the itinerary and if you had any questions you have forwarded them to us.
To confirm: feel free to bring bottled water (good recommendation for anyone who has been to wine tastings), alcoholic (you may also bring beer/think plastic or cans) or non-alcoholic beverages, and your own munchies.
If bringing a cooler, think small and compact since you will be keeping it with you at your seat and the aisle must remain clear. Yes, you may open white wine on the bus, but not red due to possible stain damage. (the white wine bottles should be the only glass containers)
Remember, we encourage you to bring a small cloth bag/tote bag for your souvenir wine glasses and smaller purchases. You may also want to bring bagged lawn chairs (please label with your name) or a lawn blanket for our free time at Round Barn. The latter may be stored under the bus and retrieved at Round Barn.
Saturday is often the busiest day for these wineries. Knowing this, be advised that the group may often have to split up to take available space while tasting and we may be several people deep at the bar!
Plan to arrive at 6:45. If you need to contact us for any reason before boarding the bus we will have cell phones to take your call! If you signed up with guests, please email us with names so that we may finalize our lists for Saturday.
Looking forward to a full and enjoyable day…your hosts,
Sandy [masked]) and Stacy [masked])
A group of us have done this trip and it was great! Join Stacy, Sandy and other fellow wine enthusiasts as we journey to the wine country of beautiful southwest Michigan! This area of Michigan is known as the fruit belt of the Midwest. Michigan is the 5th largest wine-producing region in the U.S. following California, New York, Texas and Oregon. There are 13 area wineries and on this trip and we will visit 3 of the top ones!
EXPLORE THE WINERIES OF SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN
Our day begins at 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Woodfield Mall, Golf Road side by Firestone. There we will board our deluxe 39-passenger motor coach for the trip to Michigan. We arrive at Tabor Hill Winery (we lose an hour with the time change), the home of award-winning wines that have filled the glasses of White House guests and delighted world travelers. Here we will enjoy a tasting (6 pre-selected products). Following the tasting we re-board the coach and travel a short distance to Founders Wine Cellar. The group will be divided in to two groups. While one group is enjoying lunch the other will take a tour and enjoy a tasting of Founders many varieties.
The group will also see wine being made on the spot. Guests will have their choice of one of the following lunch selections: grilled pork tenderloin, chicken breast or penne primavera, grilled vegetables, and assorted desserts. After we have enjoyed lunch and the facility tour, we will board the coach and head to The Round Barn Winery, a 1911 Amish round barn where the group may be broken up in to smaller groups. Each guest will enjoy their choice of 5 pours. Round Barn also produces spirits as well as beer. Each guest will receive a souvenir glass and a $5.00 token that can be used towards a purchase of a bottle of wine. Following a full day of wine and food we head back to Schaumburg where we arrive at approximately 5:00 p.m
