Kayaking/Canoeing, Camping & Hiking Perrot State Park (Tim S)

I will be arriving on Thursday but you can come anytime Thursday, Friday or Saturday. A few days before the trip I will send my cell number to people attending.

Give yourself at least 5-6 hours (if you want to stop along the way and the cheese castles call your name) to get to La Crosse.

I will not be getting a group site. Everyone needs to reserve their own campsite. http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/Perrot_State_Park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=WI&parkId=60033&topTabIndex=CampingSpot

Kayak and canoe rentals are not available at the state park or Goose Island. There are 2 outfitters in La Crosse. They do not transport them. You need to pick them up yourself and transport them. I do not know the cost.

We will be driving aprox. 35 miles to Goose Island. You will need to be able to get your kayak/canoe to Goose Island.

Friday afternoon: Kayak Perrot State Park in Trempealeau - just north of La Crosse.

Friday evening: Evening Cocktail Cruise on the Mississippi. Call[masked] to reserve your spot for the 90-minute cocktail cruise on a steamboat paddleboat reminiscent of the 20th century. In fact, this is one of the few authentic Mississippi paddlewheel river boats still in operation. The lower deck is climate controlled, with the upper deck allowing you to be wild and free while enjoying the sunset and enjoy beauty that abounds. Unlimited LaCrosse City Beer and Pizza are included with your $18.95 ticket along with a live band on the boat. Everyone is responsible for purchasing their own ticket. Meet at loading dock at 5:15pm -- loading dock is on the North end of Riverside Park, 405 Veterans Memorial Drive, La Crosse, WI.

Saturday:

Kayak Goose Island: http://www.fws.gov/uploadedFiles/LowerPool8.pdf We will be driving aprox. 35 miles to Goose Island. You will need to be able to get your kayak/canoe to Goose Island.

Hike Perrot State Park.

Saturday night we will have a pot luck dinner. Please bring something to share.

Perrot State Park in Trempealeau - just north of La Crosse - known for hiking, camping and breathtaking views of the Mississippi from the bluffs. The state park sticker is $10 per day or get an annual pass for $25. For more information about the park please call[masked]-6409. Dogs OK on leash. Alcohol allowed -- this is Wisconsin.

You can reserve campsites through

http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/Perrot_State_Park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=WI&parkId=60033&topTabIndex=CampingSpot

If camping is not your thing, close to Perrot Park bluff you can choose to stay at the Trempealeau Hotel which has rooms starting at $40 per night. Their Kingfisher rooms allow dogs too! Bonus, they have free-fantastic-fun live entertainment on the outdoor bandshell for all during the evening, which also has a beautiful view of the Mississippi. The cheap rooms are European-style, meaning there is one bathroom in the upstairs hallway that is shared. For more room info:

If anyone needs anything, I live 15 minutes away from Perot. I don't mind running something out there. Just reply to this and I will check it every once in a while. Couldn't make the boat trip tonight but might join up with you at some point this weekend.

I have been watching the weather and radar for the area. The radar has been looking good even though the forecast has not been so good. I am still going no matter what. A few weeks ago I went to Tippecanoe, IN and the forecast was for rain all weekend and the only rain was on Friday for only 1 hour. Over 40 people had signed up for Tippecanoe and only about 15 showed up because of the forecast. They missed a great weekend.

Hope to see everybody in LaCrosse.

Canoe/Kayak rentals are $25 per day or $50-$60 per weekend. They do have car top carriers. One place it is include in the rental price and 1 place it is extra. One of the place even has 8 canoe trailers for rent. 3 Rivers Outdoors: http://www.threeriver... University of Wis. La Cross: http://www.uwlax.edu/... I hope this helps.
