Here is the latest river data. At Winamac, the Tippecanoe is 8.9 ft. As a sanity check, normal is below 8 ft and flood stage is 10 ft. Current flow is 2.8 kcfs. Normal is below 2.1 and flood is 3.4. (I tried to paste the picture in, but it won't let me.)

My canoe is on my car in the parking lot. Brian and I will see all the brave soles there!

Southeast MN has 4"-12" of snow and travel is not advised in this area.
Happy May 2nd! Makes Chicagoland area weather seem pretty good.

There are over 20 miles of hiking trails at the park although a lot of them are dual horse and hiking trails. If the waters are too high to paddle I love to hike.

    Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the updates. I hope to go when the trip is rescheduled! Not comfortable Kayaking the river when it is super high and do not think my kids will enjoy camping in the rain. I am bummed... and was really looking forward to this! : ( Thanks for all of your hard work coordinating the trip, Kevin!! : )

    :-(
The weather is not cooperating for the weekend. Hopefully we will make it when the trip is rescheduled.

I've decided to stay put this weekend. I've paddled in fast-moving rivers before and it's not my thing.

For those of you who can't canoe but are still interested in spending the day in a beautiful park (provided its not raining) the Friends of Tippecanoe State Park are having a park clean up day on Saturday. According to their facebook site they will be working on the Visitors Center, "the overlooks," etc. They especially need people with carpentry skills.

    April 30, 2013

  • John D

I was going to rent a canoe. Since canoeing is out, I can't really see hanging out in a cabin or tent with my two children while it rains outside. I had enough rain last weekend at Mammoth Cave state park. I canceled my camp site reservation but only got back half my money. I will definitely sign up again if there's another trip planned.

I went ahead and cancelled our reservation on campsite #10. My tiny handmade wooden canoe wouldn't do well in a fast moving river.

Riverside Rentals called today. They are hoping for the water to drop by next weekend. We might have to switch to a shorter trip. They will let me know the middle of next week.

I drove over yesterday while it was raining (again!!) Water everywhere is pretty high and the weather.com forecast for Winamac shows rain for Friday and Saturday at 40%. I'm sure the water will go down from Mon to Thurs. Saw a canoer on Wildcat Creek braving the high water and rain when I went down to West Lafayette.

I've reserved a cabin for me and my daughter. If anyone is interested in sharing please let me know

Hi Mary, I am thinking of joining for this weekend. Do you still have room in the cabin? Thanks.

      April 28, 2013

    • Jeudi

How much would that be per person? I'm still wavering; I like sleeping outside but a little canon trip might be nice too. :)

      April 29, 2013

  • Gabe

I'm bringing my own kayak. I'll be in the Canoe Campground site #9.
I'll be there Friday evening, ready to paddle on Saturday.

    April 27, 2013

Gabe, care to share the site? I'm debating between outside vs a cabin....

Im a little nervous about canoeing by myself with just my daughter in the canoe with me. Does anyone know if we can have more than 2 people in a rental canoe?

    April 27, 2013

    • Kevin

Yes you can have more than 2 people per canoe. The 3rd person pays 1/2 price. You should bring a small cooler with you for the 3rd person to sit on. We can adjust the cost when you get there.

We're bringing my brother's canoe and have canoe site #2

    April 1, 2013

  • Helen H

Kevin, I also need to rent a canoe. This means I can't camp?

    March 27, 2013

    • Jeanie H.

I will be bringing 2 Kayaks- 1 regular sit-in and 1 inflatable. Does that mean that I should camp in the canoe area?

      March 28, 2013

    • Kevin

Helen H: You may bring a dog. Remember a canoe trip will last 5 to 6 hours. That is a long time in a car. Jeanie H. Either campgrounds. Canoe camp is 1/2 the price. The Family Camp has showers and flush toilets.

      March 28, 2013

  • Linda K

Sorry Kevin. Was looking at this meetup only on the app. Logged onto my computer tonight and the button appeared. Everything but the button shows on the app. Brian and I are figuring it out.

    March 27, 2013

Kevin, Can I bring my dog? She's quiet and sweet and will stay in the car while we canoe.

Please ease up on Kevin, John. He didn't make the park rules. You can either rent a cabin, or camp at the family camp or the rent-a-camp. Perhaps the State of IN can further answer all your specific questions.

Well said, John D., and thank you. John Y., glad you are joining us and I look forward to meeting you. Ok, so it is unanimous. We love Kevin. Kevin is a wonderful man and a wonderful organizer. I'm lucky to have called him a dear personal friend for 5 years now (so yes, admittedly I'm protective of him). Kevin works tirelessly for no pay and a lot of hassle. Now therefore, be it resolved, that effective immediately KEVIN IS 'DA MAN! :)

We are staying at the canoe camp at sites 3 and 4.

    January 17, 2013

    • Debbie

      John,
It is not Kevin's rule it is the policy of the campgrounds so that those with canoes can have campsites with closer access to the canoe launching area. They do not want that area to become filled up by people who will not need access to the launching area causing extra hassles for those who would then need it to have to put in and then have to find parking elsewhere for their vehicles. If you are renting a canoe you will not need to use the canoe launch as you put in and come out in different locations. Those of us bringing our own need it as that is where we will pull out. You may come by the campsite and campfire to socialize just as others will be from the family campgrounds or cabins. You just can not set up your tent there as that those sites are reserved for people with canoes for the above mentioned reasons.

      March 26, 2013

    • John Y

Thanks for explaining that Deb. It makes sense now.

      March 26, 2013

  • Tim S

    I am in campsite 61.

    March 25, 2013

Hi Kevin. I'm looking at the Riverside Canoe rentals on their website and trying to line the prices up with what they have listed. Prices don't jive. Is this a special trip they are doing for us? The longest (listed in hours and not miles) day trip they have listed on their site has kayak rentals at $45. Brian and I are trying to source kayaks elsewhere.
