Chicago Camping, Canoeing, & Outdoor Adventures Group Message Board › Lake Shelbyville Weekend Options:
Tinley Park, IL
I am planning a trip to Lake Shelbyville the weekend of April 19 – 21. We can either stay in cabins or tent camp. I would like to hike 2 National Recreation Trails (Chief Illini Trail: 11 miles and Camp Camfield Trail: 6.8 miles) and bike another trail (The Darcy Trail: 7.2 miles). Also, Mushroom Fest is going on in the area which includes a Mushroom hunt, craft booths, food booths, etc.
The average high for this time of year is 64 with a low of 43.
Looking of your opinion which way to go:
Option 1: Cabins: We will be staying in 1 or 2 cabins. They hold 16 – 18 people each (34 people total). The cabins have heat, electricity, flush toilets, showers, a full kitchen, indoor fireplace, etc. The cost will be $60 per person for cabin rental, 2 breakfasts (Saturday and Sunday), Saturday Night dinner, firewood, and pay-pal fees.
Option 2: Tent Camping: We will be staying a group site at Wolf Creek State Park. There is No electricity, flush toilets, or showers. There are only vault toilets. No food or beverages will be provided. We will have a potluck Saturday night. You will need to bring a dish to pass. The cost will be $15 per person for the campsite, firewood, and pay-pay fees.
