POSTPONED TO JAN 23 OR 30 -- See comment section.
Let's start 2014 off right by turning some tricks in the barn! Four Farthings is CTA-friendly, with excellent food/ specials/ owner. (Come early and eat!) TVs for Hawks / Bulls games.
To avoid unknowingly being taken off the “YES” list and to increase your chances of getting in, all (especially group newbies) should read these guidelines before RSVPing. Please also know the game; we set up other events for learning it.
RSVP GUIDELINES (Games start promptly at 7:00 PM, reduced fee of $3 if you're there by 6:50):
1 -- Respond “Yes” only if you are positive you can make it and arrive on time. To attend, you also must respond to an email I send two to three days out; if no response, you'll be taken off the list. No one can start playing without you (see below). If you’re really late, I'll have someone to fill in for the night.
2 -- DO NOT cancel last minute (less than 48 hours out).
3 -- WAIT LIST: Please use the "Notify Me" button to wait list yourself if it's full and here's why: First, I use it immediately to decide to expand from 12 to 16. Also, two to three days out, I’ll email the wait list. If enough are still available, I'll go up to 16 or 20. You’ll be notified via Meetup email, so keep an eye out. If you’re on the wait list and available on short notice (day of), give me contact info to increase your chances of playing. I've also reserved some spots for new members.
Why so many rules? If you cancel last minute or show up late, which happens more often than it should, it sucks for the organizer and other members. Aaaaaand…you may get banned from the group. Thank you to consistently reliable peeps…you guys ROCK.
About Progressive Euchre: First, you don't need a partner to sign up. Each player is paired with different people during the evening. Each table does eight deals, each person records what his pair scored, then everyone switches partners per the scorecard. Lather, rinse, repeat -- until the end, when the SINGLE PERSON with the most points wins. The top two scores win prizes (TBD). We are competitive in a very laid back way. The basic rules of Euchre apply. "Stick the dealer" -- yes, other variations (e.g., ace-no-face) -- no. Rules are in the "Files" link of this Meetup.
Hope to see you there!! -- Jean
