Let’s celebrate the END of election season with some euchre! Fizz is near public transit and has excellent food (eat dinner there too!...some come early around 6).
To avoid being taken off the “YES” list without realizing it and to increase your chances of getting in, everyone, especially group newbies, should first read the revised guidelines below. Bottom line: We want it to be a great experience for all, including the organizer.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE:
a) Read the RSVP guidelines before you RSVP, and b) Know how to play – this setup is best for those who already know the game (we set up other events for beginners).
REVISED RSVP GUIDELINES (Games start promptly at 7:00 PM, reduced fee of $3 if you're there by 6:50):
Please respond “Yes” only if you are positive you can make it and arrive on time. No one can start playing without you (see below). If you’re really late, we’ve been known to find someone to fill in for the night. To attend, you'll need to respond to an email I'll send two to three days out; if no response, you'll be taken off the list.
Please DO NOT cancel last minute (less than 48 hours out).
WAIT LIST: Want to play and it’s full? Waitlist yourself and please read this: First, I use it to decide whether to expand from 12 to 16 at the outset. Also, two to three days out, I’ll email the wait list. If enough of you are still available, I'll add people again. Also, if you’re on the wait list and available on short notice (day of Meetup), indicate this -- it will increase your chances of playing. You’ll be notified via Meetup email, so keep an eye out.
Did I mention that if you cancel last minute, the organizer scrambles last minute, and/or others end up playing three handed. We’re hoping you want to make a better impression than that. Aaaaaand…repeat offenders get noted and sometimes banned.
And thank you to those who are consistently reliable…you guys ROCK.
About Progressive Euchre (we’ll explain again that night):
First, while we always play for fun, we are slightly competitive just to keep it interesting. The winner gets a "prize". The loser usually gets his/her money back. The basic (Coyle) rules of Euchre are applied. "Stick the dealer is in"; other variations (e.g., ace-no-face) are out. Rules can be found in the "Files" link of this meetup site. The standard format is slightly varied. We play Progressive Euchre Style -- each player is partnered up with a different partner over the course of the night. Everyone at each table deals twice, then everyone switches partners. Lather, rinse, repeat -- until the end of the night, when everyone adds up the number of points they scored and the SINGLE PERSON with the most points wins.
Hope to see you there!! -- Jean
