Saturday Strategy celebrates International TableTop Day!

Hey board gamers!

We're teaming up with our favorite sister Meetup, Chicago Game Lovers, to offer an amazing special event!

Geek & Sundry, a popular YouTube channel, started the internet show TableTop one year ago. In honor of the one-year anniversary of the show, G&S is asking for boardgamers to host events across the world. Of course, we couldn't let an opportunity like this pass, so let's GAME ON!

Since this is a special event, we will be having LOTS of perks! Most notably, there will be a $15 cover charge for this event, but you will get the following:

  • a free breakfast buffet served from 10:00-12:00 pm with
    • scrambled eggs, toast, fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, pancakes, breakfast potatoes, carved roast turkey, Grilled vegetable medley, House Salad and unlimited soda
  • Exclusive promos for games --> EVERY person gets a free promo, mini-expansion, or demo version of a game. Some of these bonuses have been provided by Geek & Sundry directly and are exclusive to TableTop Day. It is partially "first come, first serve", so arrive on the earlier side to get the best selection!
  • NINE raffles for games/prizes valued at more then $50The Tsuro tournament winner will get first pick from the table, but then we will draw raffle tickets for the remaining nine other prize lots. The winners of the raffles will get to choose which prize they would like from the selection that remains.
  • A Tsuro tournamentThe Tsuro tournament will start at 1 pm and is free to enter. You do not need to know the game in advance to play - you can learn this game in about 2 minutes. Every person will play at least two games, with the most points awarded to the winner. The top 50% of those players from the first two rounds will advance to a semi-final round, and the top 50% of those players will advanced to the finals. The winner will get first pick from the PRIZE TABLE!!!
  • Open gaming for all, typical to our regular Meetup.

You will pay your $15 cover charge at the event to get a wristband so the restaurant knows you can access the buffet and unlimited drinks. Every person who arrives must pay the $15 cover, even if they don't partake in the buffet.

A special thanks to Cat & Mouse Game Store for helping to sponsor this event!

Here is the text for our regular Meetup (since we will still have open gaming in addition to all of our bonus events):

We will be starting at 10:00 am, and ending around 4:00 pm. Mystic Celt has a full menu and bar for food and drink. They are steps from the brown line "Southport" stop, and there is generous metered parking on Southport and free parking 1-2 blocks away until 6 pm.

Outside food and drink is not allowed.

We play various strategy boardgames, also called "Eurogames" or "designer games". If you aren't familiar with that terminology, you may recognize a few of the most popular titles, like Settlers of Catan, Dominion, 7 Wonders, Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, Agricola, Ra, and Race for the Galaxy.

You'll have a broad choice of games to learn and play because several members usually bring lots of different types of games ranging from "light and frothy" to "heavy and thoughtful", with many choices in between. Most members are very happy to teach you any game you want to learn. If you wish to bring a game, please feel free! Keep in mind that generally games are open to everyone to use, so only bring copies that you feel comfortable sharing with others.

We will ALWAYS bring the following "core" games for players to use:

  • Settlers of Catan
  • 7 Wonders
  • Stone Age
  • Pandemic
  • Puerto Rico
  • Carcassonne

Plus these titles that are also featured on TableTop:

  • Tsuro
  • Get Bit
  • Zombie Dice
  • Small World
  • Ticket to Ride
  • Dixit
  • Alahambra
  • Wits & Wagers
  • Say Anything

If there is a specific game that you would like us to bring, please send Beth (organizer) a message or mention it in your RSVP. You can check out our game collection here.

Thanks for a great event everyone! I think our first attempt at a paid event went quite well. John and I will likely try and plan 1-2 special events like this a year (i.e. with food, raffles and/or tournaments)

Thanks for organizing this. Looking forward.
We cannot stay very long, but I'm looking forward to at least meeting new folks through that. And thanks for mentioning that cool TableTop youtube show. I already watched a few episodes immediately ;-)

I spend about that much anyway at the regular events, so $15 for a buffet (let alone extra goodies) is a good deal!

This is going to be terrific, I can't wait.
