Deep Down - A film about mountain top removal

On November 20th at 2:00 p.m., the Chicago Cultural Center (in the Claudia Cassiday Theater) will sponsor the Independent Lens movie: "Deep Down". The event is free. Let's meet before the movie and go as a group! Any suggestions for lunch or cafe visit before or after the movie is welcome. Read below for the trailer info.

Deep Down:
Deep in the Appalachian mountains of eastern Kentucky, Beverly May and Terry Ratliff find themselves at the center of a contentious community battle over a proposed mountaintop removal coal mine.

Coal is the number one industry here, with an enormous influence on local economies and people. Deep Down puts a human face on the consequences of our environmental impact.

Directed by Sally Rubin and Jen Gilomen.
