Let's Hike the I&M Trail at Willow Springs: 12 Miles
Sunday, April 21st. This will be a longer hike but relatively flat and entirely on the paved bike trail. Swap your hiking boots for running shoes for this hike. A little bit longer than a beginner’s hike but not difficult. Mostly flat though we will face a couple of elevations as we cross the bridges. We will try and scoot along between 3 and 3.5 miles per hour. We will be hiking several sections of the trail in a big circle between the I&M canal and the Des Plaines River near Willow Springs, IL.
The Canal and River are both scenic with lots of nature isolated in the stretch of land between the two. You may want to bring a camera.
We will meetup in the John Husar I&M Canal Bicycle Trail Parking Lot at 9:45 and at 10:00 we will hit the trail.
We will first hike the 4 mile loop to the north of the starting point then cross the Gilbert Ave/Willow Springs Rd. Bridge and hike the 8 mile loop to the south. Beginners (or folks with dogs) that want to limit their hike are welcome to drop at the 4 mile mark as we near the parking lot.
