Informational Meeting: Let's Hike Mount Whitney (highest peak in Lower 48)!

Let's meet and discuss this trip.

I will conduct a few pre-trip meetings.

This hike is no joke.

I was notified today that my application to hike Mount Whitney has been granted. Our entry to the backcountry is July 24 and exit on July 25.

At 14,505 feet, Mount Whitney is the Highest Peak in the US's continguous 48 states.

This will probably be my itinerary:

I intend on flying into LAX Sunday/Monday.

On Tuesday, the plan is to proceed and make the four hour drive to the Visitor Center near Mt. Whitney.

Wednesday, get to Whitney Trailhead and get started. Proceed to Trail Camp and rest.

Thursday, get up at sunrise and proceed to the Summit.

After summitting, hike out and enjoy a celebratory beer.

Friday, enjoy a huge breakfast and fly back home.

I can add up to 5 hikers on this hike.

Price per hiker = $15 for the overnight permit to access the back country.

If you commit to going and fail to make arrangments to pay you will be removed.

Please understand that I need to respond to the permit administrator as soon as possible.

We can meet as discuss details after this trip.

I will be on many hikes between now and April 15 to discuss.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Published air fare today ~ $400 round trip.

I've also climbed Mt. Whitney. I agree with Mark's comment that it is better to take your time & make a multi-day trip out of the hike.

    Hi,
I went to Whitney 18 months ago on that supposedly overnight pass & its misleading. The rangers told us that its really not meant for just overnight you can actually stay for one night to 2-3 weeks if you want they just don't advertise that way. Let me repeat you can stay days & not rush the trip to attempt to do it in an overnight you can take your time.

MW is challenging from the steep East steep slope; IF you have an extra day and a vehicle, make sure you visit the White Mountains, nearby (>30 miles?) to the N by NE, and their Bristlecone Pines; Views are so much better than Ansel Adams photos of the Sierra Nevada; from WM, see the Sierra escarpment for 100s of miles, both to the North and to the South; WM is FREE; http://www.starimager.com/Secondary%20Pages/Observing%20Sites%20Pages/White%20Mountains.htm

    Does the $15 include transportation?

    March 23, 2013

    • Oscar

$15 is for your individual portion of the permit to access the mountain.

I'm interested but would like more information. Our you planning to hike it in one day? What day will you fly out and what day will you return? Will you do other hikes in the area?
