Nature Walk in Lyman Woods

Lyman Woods is an amazing Forest Preserve.  It features 200 year old Oak Savannah, native prairie lands, and a large expanse of easily accessible marsh lands. It is also an incredible venue to view some of Illinois' most exotic and colorful birds. It's common to see some deers and other animals in the wood. And, of course, it has an abundance of different wild plants.

This is a joint event with CGE group and opportunity to meet new eco-conscious friends. You can find more details about the hike here:  www.eco-living.us/events/[masked]

Looking forward to see all of you at the event!

Thank-you Vadim for a great hike, however many people did not take note of one of the points you wanted to make. Sometime you need just to sit back and watch nature around you. Too many times the hikes are time to play catch about things going on in our lives. Nature does not care what we did yesterday, or today or even what we are planning, Nature is too busy trying to survive, raise its young , let’s us enjoy it while we can

If anyone is driving from Chicago, I would appreciate a ride. Goes without saying, but I'll say it: will share expenses.

I see that it is supposed to rain tomorrow? Any contingency plan?

    May 25, 2013

    • Vadim

Deborah - For contingency plan you may bring an umbrella just in case. However, I don't think you would need to use it as according the forecast (at least as of now) it "might" rain after 3pm. But 2 hours should be enough for us.

60% chance of rain :( If it rains, I won't go...

    May 25, 2013

    • Vadim

Maryanne - It's humidity 60%. Chance of rain is only 20% which is normal for Chicagoland!

      May 25, 2013

    • Vadim

If it will be rain we will cancel but for now, we are going.

Will you start hiking right at noon? I'd love to join in but would likely be 15-20 minutes late.

I just went for a walk in the woods and suggest to have water-proof shoes as some of the parts of the path is pretty wet.

How long will this hike be?

    May 23, 2013

    • Vadim

Probably about an hour maybe more if we decide to explore other parts of the forest preserve. But it's not that big and anyone can leave at whatever time they prefer.
