Hike 9.8 mile Waterfall Glen loop

This is an easy loop for all levels of fitness. You can jog it in one hour or find a chit-chat partner and take all day. I'll keep a pace to finish in 2:28. So you can either stay with me, move ahead, or lag behind. It's not easy to get lost. There are maps sometimes available  at the start point. The terrain of the path is mostly level, some inclines, wide, and crushed limestone. Any type of reasonable footwear is okay. There are no water holes so bring enough.  Come on out and get a workout. Bring a lunch and stop half-way and picnic if you want. There is no requirement to finish together as a group. We will all start though at 9am and follow the loop clockwise.

Because of county rules and regulations the number of people to participate is limited. Therefore this hike is limited to 20.  It is important that you maintain your RSVP so no one will be left out of participating because of someone reserving a spot and not using it. So, I will take attendance and issue no shows if this happens .

NOTES:  A map can be downloaded and printed at:

As you'll see that doing the route clockwise the mile markers will be counting down.  So, at any point before mile marker 5 you can turn back if you are having problems or think you might not be able to do the entire loop. This is good.  We will be on the red trail so be sure to familiarize yourself with the trail post markings, this will be up to you.  I can not be with all of you to show you the way.   I said it's not easy to get lost, but it is possible. Water is shown to be available at the trailhead and near mile marker 7.  I would still suggest you bring and carry what you think you'll need.  Please email me with any questions or call me at:[masked]-0408.  Keep this number in case you need to contact me about  last-minute delays or cancellations on hike day.

It was a SUPER DAY! It was nice being the last one in for a change. I got to see everyone not get lost and keep a good pace. My pace was a 15:00 min/mile average (but with two short breaks along the way) so you guys were kickin'! Thanks for coming out...see ya on the next trail.

I was on the waiting list and just received confirmation email for opening. It's 7:50am, and it's too short of a notice. Sorry, I won't be there.

Last-minute cancellations are a problem. Those that move into the list after a cancellation are probably sleeping soundly. Hope to see you another time.

Sorry for last minute cancellation... Someone on the wait list will love me, though, for opening the spot :)

I've noticed that the wait list is growing and that a lot of you who signed to the wait list are new or have not hiked with this group before. I just want to clarify that being on the wait list does not mean for you to show up for the hike. Only those on the regular list are eligible for the hike.

The reason is that the Forest Preserve has allowed me only 25 (most)for this hike. I was told to cap this hike at 20. But I am allowing another 5 to sign because there is usually a 10% to 20% no show at hike day. I hope to squeak through with 25 if there aren't any no shows. I'm told there will be a ranger present to check numbers. If more than allowed show, the hike may have to be canceled.

I am posting this FYI in case you don't understand the meetup policy.

I am definitely going to be here Saturday. However, I don't know if I am hiking with the group or not, so I am not RSVPing I'd love to meet up at the star at least.

People have been asking "are we meeting anywhere for lunch?" So....

I called Falco's Restaurant and made arrangements for a group of 20 to 25 to meet between 12:30 and 1 pm. For those who are interested, the address is: 8501 Kingery Hwy
Willowbrook, IL 60527. They say they have a full menu and also serve beer. So I will be going to lunch at Falco's after the hike and invite all to join me.

This sounds like an exciting adventure. Unfortunately, I'm attending a Writer's Meet Up critique session on Saturday. Perhaps I've joined too many Meet Ups! I will make it to the next hiking adventure for sure! HAVE A FOOT STOMPIN' TIME FOLKS!

Since there's so many people on the waitlist is there any way to start a second walk like an hour later for the rest of us? If anyone else is interested in something informal I'd still like to go even if it wasn't with the main group.

Please keep your RSVP current because the wait list is quite long.

The forecast for Saturday is partly cloudy, 54 F high, 20% chance of rain. So it might be a good idea to pack a pancho or something to keep you dry in case it rains. Make sure you check in with me when you arrive for the hike. I will check your name on the list for attendance and I think a ranger will have a few words of trail rules to the group before we begin.

I just confirmed our hike with the Visitor Services of the Forest Preserve and was told that our numbers are okay and will be allowed to meet but that they expect a very crowded trail that day. There will be many bikers traveling quickly along the trail and suggest we hike single-file or no more than two abreast on the right, be aware of the call "on your left" from bikers attempting to pass. So we will keep these concerns in mind..

I see two entries for this hike. Anyway, I will be looking for a slower pace walker on the hike.
