HIKE 8 +/- miles @ Bullfrog Lake

  • Bullfrog Lake Forest Preserve

9700 S Wolf Rd, Willow Springs, IL (map)

    41.713272 -87.895740

  • This will be a copy of the hike on April 16th EXCEPT we will all meet at 9:45 and do the orange trail in a clockwise direction.

When traveling on Archer, turn onto 95th, then Wolf road will be about 100 yards, turn right onto Wolf, Bullfrog lot on right in another 50 yards. Meet just at the entrance to the lot.

We will begin the blue trail at exactly 10 o'clock, to the green, right on the green to the orange, left on the orange to loop clockwise, then right on the green to the parking lot.

Dress in layers with good boots and a day pack for snacks and about a liter of water. Should be done by 1:30.

Please be advised that this is not a "walk in the park." There are rocks and gullies, mud and other stuff that require agility and good sense.   The pace will be brisk (3.2+) so download the map from:  in case you get left behind.  If you are unfamiliar with trail hiking or haven't been on a trail for a few decades this pace might be too challenging and I suggest starting with shorter distances on level terrain.

Please email me with any questions or call me at:[masked]-0408.  Keep this number in case you need to contact me about  last-minute delays or cancellations on hike day.

Because of the rain this morning and the predicted rain for most of the night the trail conditions will only become more hazardous. I will cancel this hike and hope to schedule it again on another weekday morning. Sorry to have to do this but this trail is challenging enough in dry conditions.

If anybody is up for carpooling please text me at[masked]-0597. I have a car, but would rather join in with somebody or share mine.

Okay the forecast is for rain the next couple weeks. I don't want to cancel Tuesday unless there is torrential downpour or lightening. I'll try to decide before 9 pm Monday, I welcome any input. The trails are steep and mud would make them treacherous with high risks of injury not to mention damage to the ecosystem, so changes could be coming.

Anthony, agree with your concerns. With today's and Tuesday's projected rain, the trails will be subject to damage and potentially treacherous. And with lightning, would make this a no-go for me. Another day and/or location would be my choice.

Tony, you're really making me feel like not working anymore! I think I will definitely be taking a day or two off this summer to join you!

Once again I'm sorry to say that I have to work. I would be interested in this hike, but can not do it during the week. Please consider a weekend.

Well Heather I plan these hikes specifically for people that are free during the weekday mornings. Activities are few at these times. There are plenty of weekend activities to choose from. Take a day off sometime and enjoy the weekday hike :-).
