Annual Chicago Jazz Club Tour (Pub Crawl)

CHICAGO JAZZ FESTIVAL SEASON IS HERE ONCE AGAIN...

Come out for the Jazz Institute of Chicago's Annual Jazz Club Tour on Wednesday August 27, 2014. The JAZZ CLUB TOUR kicks off the Chicago Jazz Festival festivities by giving visitors and hometown folks an opportunity to sample a wide range of music and venues before the free festival feast to come. Starting at just $25 in advance/$35 Day of ($5 discount for JIC Members), patrons can purchase a Jazz Club Tour button providing access to all participating clubs as well as trolley transportation between the clubs. Buttons can be bought online here or are available at any of the Tour venues  (see below).

You can start the tour at any of the venues BUT the Meetup will begin at Andy's Jazz Club, 11 E. Hubbard. Andy's has food available and is just north of the Loop so it should be convenient for most folks.  The trolleys don't begin until 7:00pm but you can listen to straight ahead jazz at Andy's until the busses start.

Based on experiences the last few years we know that it will be very difficult for all of us to leave at the same time and to stay together  (the first few trolleys are generally full and thus very difficult for a larger group to ride together).   Accordingly, let's meet outside Andy's starting at 6:30pm. We'll try to split into groups that are interested in following the various routes - North, South, and Central.  We will not all be able to stick together the entire evening but you may be able to find a few kindred spirits who want to follow the same route.  Hopefully you will see some clubs that you might not ordinarily visit.

If you need to start at another venue, text or call me at[masked], and I will let you know where we are.

The Tour is over at midnight but of course you can drop off at anytime you need to do so.

Here's a list of the venues:

Great time as usual during these 'crawls.' Got separated from the group but thats ok. Thanks, Pierre, for organizing another great event!

A lot of us were "separated"....can we post the free screening of Strictly Ballroom Sept 4 on other meet up sites?

      August 28

    • Pierre

It was inevitable that we were separated. Actually its unavoidable and planned. Some folks wanted to stay in the loop, others did strictly South, still others wanted to go to the Green Mill or Kingston Mines to the north. The goal was to give folks a chance to meet in the beginning and try to find other members with whom they might like to explore the tour. We will never all be able to stick together on this type of tour.

Thank you Pierre. I met Eileen and her friends, plus hung out with Cara at Jazz Showcase. We chatted with Ira Sullivan and his musicians, relaxed on a cushy sofa, and drank wine---what a perfect venue! Hope to see you Sunday.

I loved 50 Yard Line and Red Peppers bands and wished could have stayed there longer. It was nice to see everyone. Many thanks Pierre for your leadership.

I almost bailed after the first 20 minutes on the slow, crowded, HOT trolley, but after the second venue it thinned and the trolleys got cooler and quicker. Got to do the S. loop I planned and got to the Green Mill just as the music ended. Thanks Pierre for organizing this. It was good to get out. See you Sunday at Millennium Park.

Would have liked to see more of the venues but loved most of what we did make...

Very crowded, but that shows what a great idea it is. Most fun was making new friends in the group, and seeing old friends.

Cara: Really enjoyed meeting you and Stacia...hope to have the pleasure again soon.

Looking forward to the trolley tonight with jazz friends! And if anyone wants to hear an amazing, magical vocalist on Sunday evening, be at the Pritzker at 7ish for Cecile McLorin Salvant. She's not to be missed; the hour they've set her for is much too short!

Cara! It will be great to see you again after the piano meet up in July.

Yes! You, too, Stasia! And to Valerie and other new friends, you'll really like the group.

This will be my first time meeting with this group. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. I will try to make it to And Y's by 6pm.

I'm up for the S loop too. I'll try to be at Andy's at 6pm to meet some of you, and I'll need to get to Reggie's to meet up with my wife soon after. Whatever you do, don't overlook Ernest Dawkins at Norman's Bistro - we saw him last year and he's a BLAST! Dawkins is also the headliner Thursday at 6:30pm in Millennium Park! If you see him tonight, you'll be able to say to your neighbors tomorrow "yeah, I caught him last night and he came over to our table during his break and..."

I'll be meeting up at Andy's and plan to do the south side loops. Anyone going south on this list? Would like to end up at the Green Mill at midnight though.

sounds good to me, I don't get to clubs on the South side...

    • Eilene

Thinking I'll do Andys to Jazz Showcase to M Lounge then Reggies to switch to south side for City Life, back to Reggies so I can head to Kingston Mines and end at Green Mill at midnight...I think?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
