Chicago Lean Startup Challenge Finals

  • October 3, 2012 · 6:00 PM

On Oct. 3 the Chicago Lean Startup Challenge culminates at 1871 with the Challenge Finals.

Learn from four Lean Startup teams that started with an idea, learned, iterated, gained traction and ascended to the top of a cohort that began with 107 startup teams and 285 individuals.

Join us and watch as they battle for supremacy, competing for $25,000 in cash + $50,000 in prizes.

The Finals will feature the four Challenge left in the competition:

unWined - provides a touch screen decision-making guide for wine and wine related products positioned at the point of decision-making – the wine aisle.

Unbranded Designs- is a web-based furniture company that funds, manufactures and sells the most promising pieces from our community of independent designers.

Care Content - helps health care organizations engage patients online by licensing a reserve of customizable, patient-focused web content.

Cardoona - Cardoona is an online marketplace that saves restaurants time and money by facilitating their relationship with food distributors.

These four teams will each have 10 minutes to present how they used Lean Startup principles and the Customer Development process to create validated learning for their business model.  Each team will face 5 minutes of questions from the audience via GoSoapBox, before our distinguished judges ask a final round of questions.

Our judges include:
Kunjorn Chambundabongse - UnitedHealth Group
Kevin Willer - 1871 and Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center
John Pytel - GoSoapBox and Winner of 2011 Chicago Lean Startup Challenge
Bernhard Kappe - Pathfinder Software
Todd Wyder -   Pathfinder Software

Our finalists are receiving unparallelled support from Chicago startup leaders in the month leading up to the showcase.

Teams are working with Groupon Design Union to design their user experience with world class support.  Each team is working with a Groupon designer to consciously construct a fantastic experience for their customers to interact with the teams mvp and website.

Troy Henikoff is coaching our teams on their presentation for the Challenge Finals.  He is teaching them how to communicate the information they want get across to the audience in an effective and memorable way.

This will be an awesome demonstration of the process used to take an idea, and bring it to market with a higher probability of success.  Don’t miss out.  Sign up for the event now.

I was start struck, it was my first time at any Chicago Lean Startup event. The networking opportunity and energy all participants was amazing. I have a couple of suggestions to throw in for next year. I learned a lot at the event specifically during the presentations. I tried to guess which challenger would best meet the Lean Start Up criteria. Honestly, I was surprised to learn who the winner was, in hind sight I can guess why but I feel --= I could learn more and learn faster if our honorable judges will share some insights as to how they feel the winner meets the Lean Startup Methods the best =--. Also Bernhard thank you so much for saying hi and welcoming me to the "Alcoholics Anonymous Meet Up" that was a wonderful whit and the joke really helped put me at ease and enjoy the night.

Good presentations. Could have used a break in there as it was a lot to listen to all 4 in a row.
