This is a weekly Sacred Harp singing event in Hyde Park. The regular singers at this event have a lot of Sacred Harp singing experience and are very welcoming to new Sacred Harp singers. This singing event would be a great way to start learning Sacred Harp music. This singing group also sings from some other song books, including The Norumbega Harmony, Missouri Harmony, and Shenandoah Harmony. Visitors are always welcome to share a copy of tunebooks or to borrow books during the event. Copies of The Sacred Harp tunebook and the other tunebooks may be available for sale at the event.
The event is held at the homes of local singers in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. The location rotates between several singers' homes from week to week. The specific location is provided to members of the Sacred Harp meetup group. At first, newcomers may be a bit reserved about attending an event at a person's home. But, please know that you are welcome into their homes. In Sacred Harp singing, it is common for singing events to take place in homes across the country. So, come on by!

A NOTE ABOUT GETTING STARTED IN SACRED HARP SINGING
You probably signed up for this meetup group, because you have some interest in singing. If you enjoy the music and the concept of community-based singing, the important thing is to just get started. There is no need to become a master at Sacred Harp singing in your first singing, second singing, or hundredth singing or triplegazillionth event. So, it's important not to put a lot of pressure on oneself to learn everything all at once. Sacred Harp singing is simply about getting together to sing, leaving each other, and then getting back together to sing again in the near future. There is a lot of time to learn over time, and there is a lot of informal sharing of knowledge that takes place to help newcomers get started. One thing to know is that this is not simple music, but it is music that everyone can learn to sing and participate in. Hope you can join us!
