Living the Vegan Lifestyle: A Learning Sharefest!

Do you want to learn some (or more) of the ins and outs of the vegan lifestyle?  Then please join us for this event. And if you have learned some cool or essential things in your pursuit of a quality vegan lifestyle, we want you to share them with us (but no sales pitches please)!

At this gathering we will learn from each other. This sharing of what we have learned will be facilitated/moderated by the host, who went vegan three years ago without a clue about making a vegan diet work.

Longtime vegans, new vegans, vegan wannabes, or just curious are all welcome for this informal knowledge exchange and meeting like-minded friends!

This event will formally end at 2:55 to make space for the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade planning meetup that starts at 3pm (click here for more info).

Please use the "Comment" area on the event page to offer/ask for rides and post any questions or comments.

Thanks everyone for sharing. I also wanted to ask a question to any vegans who are also dog owners. Do you feed your dogs a vegan dog food? Seems that from online reviews, vegan cat foods seem to be ok but dog owners have had mixed results, some with serious consequences to the dogs. One of my dogs has an autoimmune disease and should avoid certain veggies that are harder on the kidneys, so I have been hesitant to try any new, different, commercial food (vegan or otherwise). If you are a vegan dog owner, I'd love to know if your dog is also vegan, what you feed them, and your thoughts on veganizing your pets. Unlike humans, I think dogs are natural carnivores and I'm torn on the issue. My pups enjoy some veggies but do also get dead animals as part of their diet. Thanks in advance!

From what I've read dogs are omnivores but cats are true carnivores. I have 2 cats and I do not feed them Vegan food. I finally have them both at a healthy weight & I'm afraid to mess with that, but I did watch a video with Dr. Doug Lisle who does have his cats on vegan cat food & they're doing well so maybe I need to do more research. It would be great to have no animal products in my home.

Joanna - You may connect via Facebook with Gill Gillono (email me if you have trouble find her). She lives in West suburbs and her dogs are completely vegan. I believes she also offers some vegan dog food for sale as she buys them in bulk (?) and some of my friends buying it from her. I am sure she can offer you some info about keeping dogs vegan.

I would have loved to do this - but going to the March Against Monsanto. This would be great to repeat sometime - great idea!
