ChicagoVeg 4th Anniversary: Polish Vegan Dining, Presentation, & Prizes!

Many of you remember a delicious Polish vegan dinner at Theresa 2 with almost 100 attendees. This time we will have the same delicious vegan dinner and the celebration!

Menu:

  • Appetizers: Cole Slaw (raw), Cucumber Salad (raw), Pickles
  • Soups: Mushroom Barley, Dill Pickle
  • Entrees: Potato Pancakes, Pierogi (potato, cabbage), Golabki (stuffed cabbage)
  • Sides: Boiled Potatoes with dill, Leczczo (Fresh Mixed Vegetables with sauce), Kapusta (Cabbage)
  • Drinks: Ice Tea, Coffee
  • Dessert: Fresh Fruit

Right after the dinner we will have a presentation.

Please welcome this evening guest speaker Sujatha Ramakrishna, M.D. who will give us a 20-30 minute presentation entitled "Compassion and Mental Health". The presentation illustrates how our culture of self-centeredness often contributes to the development of modern mental disorders, and identifies the psychological benefits that result when we show compassion for all living beings. Dr. Ramakrishna is a pediatric psychiatrist, author of the book "Raising Kids Who Love Animals", and an active promoter of vegan diets in her local community (click here for details).

And finally we will have a raffle with a number of exciting prizes!

The entire event is only $15 (cash only). Everyone who RSVP on-line will get a free raffle ticket. You may consider to get some additional tickets to benefit ChicagoVeg for only $1 per ticket or 20 tickets for $10 (half price per ticket!)

Please invite your non-vegetarian friends to enjoy this evening with us!

WHAT A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY VEGAN DINNER, LISTEN TO AN INTERESTING PRESENTATION, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, AND SUPPORT CHICAGOVEG - ALL IN ONE!

A video we should all watch (no, no animals shown): Philip Wollen: http://www.youtube.com/user/kindnesstrust?feature=watch Philip Woolen states: Eliminating meat would end starvation forever.

What species in the History of Life has had that power?

    Another question, no time:

Vegans and war? I have no hard information on individual vegans and war, other than the USA military is starting to respect us in meals provided. But, vegans "need" less war: we use less oil, so less need need to protect oil supplies. Less water, so less water conflicts - and the Water Wars are either coming, or already here - and not genteel courtroom arguments, I'm expecting armed conflicts. Less global warming and climate change from vegans, so we are delaying some climate change, and hence fewer (and not as soon) environmental refugees. Less land needed to feed use. so less need to forcibly take land to feed our non-existent animals. It goes on and on.

A question we didn't have time for:

Vegans in prison: I recall one article, where prisoners were allowed to opt-in to a vegan program. The group had way less violence in prison, and less recidivism after release. Of course the project was discontinued for (bogus, my opinion) reasons. See also Buddhist Prison Project, they are getting good results.

Great food, little by little I feel more comfortable in such a large group and I think it says much about this group.
