We have heard your requests, and we are excited to offer our 1st Veggie Single Mingle event! The first ChicagoVeg Singles event will be a dinner at Heartland Cafe. While Heartland Cafe is not a vegetarian restaurant, it was one of the first Chicago Vegan-friendly restaurants. The restaurant is giving us a SPECIAL $16.00 package (including tax and tips!). This will provide the following exclusively strict vegan buffet style dinner: Appetizer: - Fried pita and garlic-tahini humus Main course: - Mild curry (sweet potato, eggplant, broccoli, yellow curry, coconut milk) - Brown rice - Veggie fried rice - Veggie tempura (broccoli, sweet potato, carrot). Desert: - Vegan mixed berry pie Drink: - Herbal tea or coffee This event will offer a relaxed atmosphere to meet new people, make new friends, or possibly discover that special someone! Michael (the restaurant owner) will also donate different prizes for the drawing! During the event, will ask people to switch seats during the event, to facilitate a better opportunity for everyone to meet more people. An additional bonus: Everyone is invited to stay after the meetup (around 9 PM) to listen to a band that will be performing! A $5.00 donation is suggested for the band to those who wish to stay. The number of seats is limited - please hurry to get your spot for the dinner with us! Please also be responsible about your RSVPs - Three Strikes Policy is in the effect. Please use "Talk about this Meetup" area in the bottom of the event page to offer/ask rides and post any questions or comments.

Wonderful game we played. Made it easy to mingle. Next we can call it: "Mindfully Mingleling". Happy holidays season to all.

I had a lot of fun and appreciate all the effort that went into making this event possible. Thank you Parag and Vadim for organizing and Mali for helping out at the event and anyone else I forgot mention. The ice breaker idea was a really good way to get people talking.

I had a great time. The ice-breaker game was a good idea.
I have a suggestion for future events that would allow for greater mingling during dinner with consideration that not every venue or event would accomodate this set-up.
A progressive dinner set-up where each course is served family style and everybody rotates after each course.1-Salad/appetizers, 2-main course 3-dessert.

Thanks for organizing another great event.

This was my first Meetup experience and I have to say it has set the bar very high for future Meetup experiences. Great turnout, very cool group of people and while I may not have been to a lot of singles events, this was by far the most comfortable one I have ever been to. Thanks Guys!

I was a bit underwhelmed by the food (hence the four out of five rating), but I had a great time meeting and mingling with some new veggie friends.

Very good food and wonderful conversations with many people! The only drawback to the place is the parking situation. Otherwise a very nice evening all around!

I just talked with Michael (the restaurant owner) and was told that the most likely they won't have musicians on this Saturday. On the bright side it will save us $5 we would be donating for music :) Also, Parag is going to have a cool game/people mixer for ice-breaker so don't be late to take a full advantage of it!
An the last thing - Please make sure to change your RSVP in advance if you can not make it so people on waiting list could attend the event.

Look forward to seeing you all!

The parking around Heartland Cafe is not by permit only but often "hard to find". If you can not find anything close enough you may want to park at their designated parking lot: http://www.heartlandcafe.com/pa...

  • Kristen M

I noticed that the Heartland Cafe website says to park in the Christian Mission parking lot on Morse and Ashland. Does anybody know if there is usually street parking available a little closer to the restaurant, and if so, whether it is permit only? Thanks!
